Review of The Hauser Diet: A Fresh Look At Healthy Living! (Hardcover)

The Hauser Diet caught my attention because of Dr. Hauser's success using his injection technique to repair my knee (Prolotherapy). I got my leg strength back with no arthroscopic surgery. Now I'm looking for solutions to low energy. I want the energy of a finely tuned Ferrari.

Like the Hauser's, I too have completed marathons, triathlons, and century bike rides. I'm a 55-year-old student of nutrition and sports training. I learn from athletes like Lance Armstrong and his coach, Chris Carmichael. These athletes backup their ideas about nutrition and training regimens with astounding results.

Athletes write the Hauser Diet too. They research for ways to optimize health, energy and human performance. Research shared in this book broadened my awareness of foods' impact upon my energy. If I knew specifically what foods to choose to live fast and strong why shouldn't I choose well? The authors use a clever analogy to animals' diets to show that humans too must make food choices to optimize energy and health. Then they show in plain English why for my `diet type' certain foods are best for me. I am excited about implementing the research found in The Hauser Diet.

Review of The Complete Idiot's Guide to Low-Carb Meals (Paperback)

The book contains a reasonable number of recipes and lots of 'hints' that if you've done ANY reading about low carbohydrate eating, will be superfluous.

The recipes run the gamut of carb counts, though I thought that the bulk of them were much higher carb than is helpful.Following the suggestions in this book and the recipes, it wouldn't be all that hard to hit 80-100++ grams of carb per day... which is simply TOO HIGH for many people who are following low carb lifestyles.

Many recipes call for sugar, white flour, semi-sweet chocolate and cornstarch.Come ON... those are NOT "low carb" ingredients.

This is more or less a repackaged low fat/lower cal cookbook with "low carb" thrown on the cover to try to generate some market share. My copy is being donated to a charity, it isn't worth the space on the shelf for someone interested in real "low carb" cooking.

Product Description
Delicious recipes for the low-carb cook. Today's most popular diets rely on cutting down on carbs, but most cooks have difficulty finding scrumptious low-carb alternatives. Enter cookbook authors Lucy Beale and Sandy Couvillon-with more than 330 mouth-watering recipes for the diehard dieter that will appeal to the whole family and are easy to make.

- Includes meal-planning information and charts
- Provides important nutritional information

Review of The Complete Idiot's Guide to Low Sodium Meals (Paperback)

As someone who has to really watch her sodium intake, I'm thrilled that this book has turned out to be so great.I own a number of low sodium guidebooks and cookbooks, so I've become very familiar with this category.I've only tried two of the recipes so far, but each was an "out of the park" home run.The first was Just-Like-Mom's Meat Loaf, and, forgive me, Mom, but it was way better. And at 115.8 mg of sodium per serving, it was right in the sodium range that I'm looking for.It was easy to prepare, turned out to be moist with terrific texture, and had a wonderful sweet-spicy sauce. And there was plenty for meat loaf sandwiches, which is one of the best things about meat loaf, the left overs for sandwiches! The second recipe was Tasty Turkey-Stuffed Peppers, and it couldn't have been easier.Even with only one pound of turkey, you'll definitely need very large bell peppers or at least two medium sized peppers. And, again, the left overs were terrific.Another very appreciated feature is that most of the recipes don't call for a ton of ingredients, which make these recipes quick and easy, and best of all, low sodium!
