Review of Special Diets for Special Kids (Hardcover-spiral)

I disagree tremendously with the negative review listed for this book. The author never implies the diet will work for everyone and is the sole therapeutic answer. In my opinion, if you are even THINKING of implementing a gluten-free, casein-free diet for your child, this book is a must. Notonly does the author provide a thorough review of the literature &studies done on relevant treatments for autism, & defines many of theterms so readily used, she offers a ton of GREAT, KID-FRIENDLY recipes(great for ANY kids that need to be dairy- and gluten-free, regardless ofthe reason). The author presents the information without bias, allowingthe reader to form their own conclusions whether the diet would be helpful. And while, yes, the diet may be difficult to implement (since casein andgluten are so pervasive in our foods), it offers a SAFE, alternativeapproach that we have seen work for MANY, MANY people in conjuction withother therapies. And as a medical professional, I was more skeptical thanmost that there could be any link with food & behavior before I heardand saw it for myself over and over and over first hand.If I had a childwith autism I would CERTAINLY TRY this.I would have nothing to lose andeverything to gain.

Review of Recipes for the Specific Carbohydrate Diet: The Grain-Free, Lactose-Free, Sugar-Free Solution to IBD, Celiac Disease, Autism, Cystic Fibrosis, and Other Health Conditions (Healthy Living Cookbooks) (Paperback)

This is my first review but I had to write one because this book is fantastic!I have made five recipes in the past five days and my 5 year old son (with severe ulcerative colitis) has loved every single one (the rest of the family has loved the food too)!I own every SCD cookbook and this one seems to have the most recipes that are winners. So far, we have made: a chinese chicken dish (actually tastes like chinese chicken but without soy sauce- amazing); vietnamese pork (same); almond puff (tastes like cake!); chili-lime crackers (tastes like mild cheez-its!); and shortbread (buttery and tasty). We are going to keep trying recipes but love this cookbook and wanted to post this review while ordering another copy for my son's grandmom.Well worth adding to your library.
