Review of Easy Health Diet: Manage Weight And Prevent Scary Diseases (Paperback)

Easy Health Diet: Manage weight and prevent scary diseases is an easy to use beginner's reference to health, diet, and exercise. The author, a doctor of physics, does not claim any professional knowledge in these areas. Instead, the author has used his exemplary research skills to undertake his own health transformation. The author uses these experiences to guide readers towards undertaking their own research towards personal health transformations.

Easy Health Diet: Manage weight and prevent scary diseases is full of research material. The author includes sections demystifying myths about low carbohydrate diets, surgery, drugs, calorie cutting, and suffering. The author stresses that the only way to truly lose weight is to burn more calories than one is intaking while still eating a nutritionally sound diet. The author suggests that adding soy products to the diet while decreasing four-footed animal meats is the key to eating nutritionally while decreasing both calories and fat. To this end, the author explains in great detail the benefits of soy products, the types of soy products available, and how to prepare soy. The author even includes links to dozens of online merchants and recipe sources.

Easy Health Diet: Manage weight and prevent scary diseases is very well researched. Furthermore, the author makes great attempts to present his research in an informative way that gives the reader basic knowledge in health issues while challenging the reader to take charge of his or her own health concerns. Moreover, the author also introduces low cost and budget saving alternatives instead of promoting high cost specialty products.

Review of Play Your Carbs Right!...With The Brennans (Paperback)

The book "Play Your Carbs Right!" by the Brennan's is an easy plan to help you get skinny and enjoy yourself in the process!
Recent studies have shown that many Americans have "dieted" themselves into obesity and poor health. By eating low fat we have filled our food with chemicals and sugar that create havoc in our bodies. By counting calories we have slowed our metabolism and can't maintain any weight loss.
The key according to the Brennan's is the amount ofcarbohydrates you consume. A diet rich in protein with moderate amounts of carbs added will trigger satisfaction and help curb temptation.
Eating a lower carb diet is not new. There are a number of books on the market that espouse the low carb lifestyle. However, many of them are so scientific they are hard to understand. Others lay out plans that have you severely restrict carbs from your diet. Strict low carb diets are hard to stay with over the long haul.
That's where the Brennan's book differs. Their book, "Play Your Carbs Right" offers a kind, gentle, low carb eating plan that you can commit to for life!
I first learned about the Brennan's when I came across the books "Sugar Bust For Life! with the Brennans" and "Sugar Bust for Life! with the Brennans Part II" at a book store. I love the books!
They are chocka'block with great recipes, wine lists, tips and more on following a low sugar, healthy diet.So when I learned they had recently released another book, "Play Your Carbs Right", I decided to pick up a copy.
As I read through the book something "clicked" for me. Over the past years I have read a number of different diet books that teach the low carb lifestyle. (I had already tried and failed at calorie counting and eating low fat) Despite trying some of the plans I couldn't stick to them. Either too complicated, too strict, or just plain boring. But "Play Your Carbs Right!"spelled out in simple terms what I had to do to accomplish my weight loss goal. AND IN AN ENJOYABLE WAY THAT I COULD STICK TO FOR LIFE!
It absolutely simplifies low carb dieting. It explains in easy terms why low carb dieting is an effective weight loss method. It teaches you how to figure out your personal carb intake to lose and maintain your weight. It lists daily menus for several weeks, snack ideas, and a handy mini carb counter. I started losing right away!
The book also includes a ton of delicious low carb recipes.
The Brennan's own the well known Brennan's restaurant in New Orleans. The recipes in "Play Your Carbs Right" are based on their many years of working in the food industry. These are recipes for folks who love to eat and want delicious meals that satisfy.
Unfortunately many low carb diet books contain alot of awful dishes. (I hate to think of the times I have wasted food as low carb recipes I made came out inedible.)
The Brennan's book is an exception. I have tried a number of the recipes and they are great! There are a variety of recipes including: Appetizers, Sauces, Soups, Stocks, Salads, Salad Dressings, Mayonnaise, Omelettes, Frittatas and Quiches, Entrees, Side Dishes or Vegetarian's Fare, and Desserts and Dessert Beverages.
Some of my favorites include Classic Buffalo Wings, Asparagus Bisque, Green Bean Salad, Creamed Lemon Chicken with Asparagus, Ellen's Crabmeat Salad, Pecan Crust and Italian Shrimp.
The recipes are not only delicious but they are easy to make and call for ingredients that are easy to find! Each recipe also includes carb counts per serving.
It's my personal belief that more and more folks will realize that weight loss does not have to involve starvation diets or over analyzing the nutrients you eat. The key is simply to be smart about carbs.
If you watch the carbs you eat, you can eat delicious, filling meals and snacks. By making smart carb choices you will lose weight quickly, without hunger and become healthier.
"Play Your Carbs Right!" is a great guide to help you get healthy and lose weight! You can accomplish your goals!

Review of Six Ingredients Or Less: Low-Carb Cooking (Plastic Comb)

This is a pretty great book. You can just open it up, find a recipe using ingredients that you already have in your kitchen, and put together a delicious meal. The sections are broken down nicely between breakfast foods, appetizers, beef, chicken, fish, etc. that give a wide range of diffent tastes and textures to fit your mood.Additionally, the low number of ingredients means that you won't be stuck in the kitchen preparing a meal for hours; most of the dishes can made ready for the frying pan or oven in about 15 minutes.Still, the best aspect of the book, for those of us embracing a more low-carb lifestyle, is that each recipe lists how many serving the recipe makes along with how many calories and carbs each serving contains. It's very, very useful in managing what you're taking into your body.I recommend this cookbook.

Review of The Low-Carb Bible (Hardcover)

The low carb bible is a large scale, hardcover book with a ton of information. It compares the various diets, explains why they work and offers practical recipes and tips.
The book isn't trying to indoctrinate you in the low carb lifestyle. It gives both information on studies supporting low carb as well as the concerns that some have about this lifestyle. It lets you make an educated decision about how to follow a low carb lifestyle.
There is a section comparing the main low carb diets - Atkins, carbohydrate addicts, neanderthin, protein power, schwarzbein principle, south beach, sugar busters, Suzanne Somers, and the zone.
Many pages are dedicated to carbohydrate counts, to let you judge which foods are better to eat than others as far as the sugar content goes. Then there are almost 200 pages of recipes with full color photos. They range from breakfasts and snacks to salads and full meals.
This is a great book to leave out on your coffee table and read in many sittings, looking over the exercises one day, the various diet suggestions on another. A great way to get a grounding in the low carb world.

Review of Southwest Lite: Full-Flavored, Healthy Cooking (Paperback)

What a surprise to see such a creative Southwest cookbook. The recipes are not only healthy but sparkle with the zesty flavors of "red rock country."I made the soft-cheesy crackers Wiseman calls "Devil's Kisses" and was dazzled with the great flavor and the zesty touch of chipotle heat, caught me off guard. Indeed a pleasant surprise. As for the photography, what more appealing photos could you ask for. Whomever this fellow Chris Marchetti is he sure knows how to take food shots. This book should be on the shelves and in the kitchens for a long time.I hope Wiseman does another.Pennigan

Review of Cooking TLC: Truly Low Carb Cooking Volume 1 (Spiral-bound)

I have purchased 5 or 6 copies of this book and have given away all but one of them. The recipes in this cookbook are incredibly easy to follow, and for someone like myself who has not spent much time in the kitchen, that aspect of the book is critical and much appreciated.Detailed descriptions are given for everything.
When I first began my low carb journey I was resigned to eating food that satisfied me physically but was rather repetitious. With Truly Low Carb Cooking I have experienced something very different.Karen Rysavy has shown us that there is virually nothing that cannot be converted to a low carbohydrate way of eating, and most of this can be done by using ingredients that are readily available to most people.
It is variety that helps us stick with a particular way of living. This cookbook is surely that, and more.It contains helpful household and cooking hints, as well as recipes for a wide variety of dishes that are truly a pleasure to eat.Creamy Cucumbers, Heavenly Mousse, Catsup, Creamy Seafood Bake - the variety is amazing!
I recommend this book without reservation!Put this on your Christmas list for yourself or the food afficionado in your life!

Review of Low Carb High Flavor Recipes Made Easy (Paperback)

I have nearly every low carb cookbook known to man, but this one is definitly my favorite. It's not for those just starting out with low carb (meaning, those on Induction levels) since Fiona is more liberal with fruits and certain vegetables that are not permitted in the beginning. But once you've moved on to Ongoing Weight Loss phases and beyond (or if you're just low carb in general) this will quickly become a favorite. Since I am nearly at goal weight I've had to lower calories significantly and that is why this cookbook caters so perfectly to me. Although she does have some more "luxurious" dishes with rich ingredients, most of the recipes utilize lean meats and good fats (like olive oil) over things like lard or butter. (I've found most other low carb cookbooks use excessive fat, meaning a dish could have 700 calories or more at times). Some exceptionaly good recipes include the roasted red bell pepper and feta cheese fritatta, the roasted chicken quarters with pear (not the exact title), the mashed cauliflower, the turnip and rutabaga chips, the lamb chops with tomato sauce (not exact title) and her breakfast shakes. I'm still working my way through this book, but I have yet to be disappointed...

Product Description
In this timely book, Fiona Carns offers not just delicious low-carb recipes - most of which take only 5 to 20 minutes to prepare - but a great eating strategy designed around energy breakfasts, quick snacks, and gourmet dinners. For starters, try the Ribeye and Fennel with Avocado or the Lemongrass and Ginger Chicken Balls. Then choose from such delicious dishes as Baked Salmon in Balsamic and Maple Syrup with Shaved Fennel or Lamb, Eggplant, and Feta with Roasted Red Pepper Sauce. Included is a recommended products section listing the staples of this diet, carbohydrate levels for each product, and basic preparation techniques. A useful chart arranges foods in the categories of Enjoy, Limit, and Avoid, and a section on dishes tailored for kids makes a healthy diet fun for the whole family.
