Review of Lunch Lessons: Changing the Way We Feed Our Children (Paperback)

The photograph on the cover of this book is a bit misleading. The topic of "Lunch Lessons" has a lot more to do with improving American school hot lunch programs than it is about packing healthy brown bag lunches for your own child. It does include a list of recipes at the back of the book. Many sound great, like the "Three Cheese-Vegetable Strata" and the "High Protein Squares" (a homemade replacement for power bars). They also look very time-consuming.Although I haven't tried any of the recipes, it seems to me that making your own pizza dough for the "Pizza Wheels" might take a bit longer than anyone wants to spend making lunch. Actually, I think the recipes are really in here to inspire the people who make hot lunches in school cafeterias.

Like other reviewers I am interested improving school nutrition policies.I head a health committee at my daughter's school dedicated to improving nutrition and fitness for the students and their families. As such this book should be a perfect fit. Unfortunately for me, my daughter attends a private school and almost all of the information in this book, including the reference list in the back, is only helpful if your child attends a public school. (I've actually found more useful information on government web sites than I have in this book!)That doesn't mean it's been completly useless. There are a few great tidbits to be found here and there.I found the recommendation about "laptop lunches" really great.I don't think I would have found out about the company and their fabulous lunch boxes had it not been for this book. (The cover photograph shows a "laptop" lunchbox.)

In the end I think I would recommend this book to anyone interested in taking on the enormous problem of unhealthy school lunches in public schools. If you're looking for new ideas for your child's lunchbox there are probobly better books out there. If like me you're trying to improve the health policies at a private school there probably won't be many ideas in "Lunch Lessons" that you can use exactly as described.

Review of Dr. Atkins' Vita-Nutrient Solution: Nature's Answer to Drugs (Paperback)

This outstanding book solved what numerous doctors, clinics, university hospitals could not do in 20 years.Using the clear, concise, easy guidelines in this book, my 20 year problems of obesity and chronic depression started to disappear in days, and 5 weeks later I was a totally new person. This book is just outstanding. It covers a wide variety of illness and ailments.Amino acids and essential fatty acids were critical to my results, yet they are inexpensive, safe to use, and have no adverse side effects. Three doctors who use this type of approach are James Kwako MD, Santa Barbara, CA., and Julian Whitaker MD, Newport Beach, CA., and Priscilla Slagle MD, Los Angeles; they have years of experience and success. The dramatic results I got from this book cannot be over stated.I use iHerb and Jo Mar Laboratories for obtaining the products needed. I am not affiliated or connected with any book, doctor, company listed here. I donated 8 copies of the book to 2 county library systems. The book saved my life.

Review of Child Health Guide: Holistic Pediatrics for Parents (Paperback)

If you're someone who finds yourself inexorably drawn to living the healthy life and want the best for your child's health, you should consider buying this book. It's the most concise, accurate treatise I've seen on the subject of children's health. In fact, I intend to buy 10 copies and give them out to friends and relatives as they have kids!

Dr. Neustaedter not only covers traditional subjects like coughs, colds, ear infections, and supplements, but he also broadens the net to include assessments of water filters, safe crib mattresses to reduce SIDS, breastfeeding how-tos, Vitamin K shots at birth, etc. This is but a sampling of what's included!I would highly recommend this book to anyone considering getting pregnant (since the subject matter covers conception to pre-teen health).

What's taken 80% of my leisure time in the last 4 years to investigate on my own, he's drawn together in one handy book for you.Wish he'd published this 4 years ago :-)

BTW, who am I?I am a woman who is into all things healthy and am the lodestone for all I know IRL who want to find out what being healthy means. They've always suggested I should publish a book, but now, I don't have to - Dr. Randy's done it :-)

Lastly, the other book you should have is Smart Medicine for a Healthier Child - which includes every possible illness under the sun, and 4 or 5 alternative, home remedy, and allopathic treatments for each.

Product Description
The number of children taking prescription drugs for every type of ailment has reached epidemic proportions. Child Health Guide offers sensible alternatives to this disturbing trend, providing the information parents need to make informed decisions about natural healing for their children and the integration of natural treatments into their children's medical care. The book covers the prenatal period through infancy, toddlerhood, and into middle childhood, with emphasis on extended breastfeeding, co-sleeping, a natural foods diet, avoidance of toxic chemicals, limited use of vaccines, and treatment of health problems with homeopathic medicines and herbs. Child Health Guide respects parents' choices while providing persuasive arguments for building a healthy immune system by avoiding conventional drugs and stressing natural methods. Using an educational and informative tone, the book discusses preventive medicine, the causes of poor health in children, and common foods and chemical exposures that can contribute to chronic illness. It also provides nutritional interventions that strengthen immunity and promote healing.
