Review of Nutrition Almanac (Paperback)

When I ordered this book, I was anticipating giving away my old 4th edition for a new one with improved information.NOT SO!

The tables, the heart and soul of the book, have fewer foods and not more than the 4th edition. In a display of ignorant cost cutting, Carb counts for grains such as rice are given per cup of RAW not cooked product - same for macaroni whereas the 4th edition gives raw and cooked values. This alone makes it not worth the money but scattered throughout are foods that were there for 4th edition but are now gone.

The publisher probably saved money by eliminating pages but I can no longer recommend this book to friends; I advise them to not buy it but get a copy of the 4th edition instead.

Italso gives sample menu plans andsuggestions for Shape training duringpregnancy. I really enjoy the book. However, I did find a few of therecipes somewhat tasteless and I would have liked a few more modificationson the workouts for the at home exerciser. Other than than its well worththe price.

Review of The Wine Lover's Healthy Weight Loss Plan (Paperback)

In my business, I receive a lot of requests for endorsements, but accept only those I deem the best. And I jumped on this request immediately. It could not be more appropriate for my audience.

I agree with the reviewer from Seattle who described this as a great reference book - both for its informed health information and its storehouse of healthy gourmet recipes (no those are NOT compatible).

Not just for wine lovers? No, this is a great source book for those wondering whether wine can be beneficial to their health. The answer is yes it is beneficial, if consumed daily and in moderation. And that's good news for all of us.

Review of It Must Be My Metabolism (Paperback)

I found this book incredibly helpful for I finally understand why the fad diets just don't work. This book is not just another diet book nor is it a weight loss book; so don't expect to find weight loss tricks here and there. I have used this book as part of the program offered at the Doctor's center in Connecticut. For the first time in my life I am losing weight while I am eating plenty of healthy foods. I feel satisfied, calm, and much happier, plus I am exercising and enjoying it too! I feel great and have more energy than ever. The best part is that my health has dramatically improved. Finally, I am learning that it is not about dieting as much as it is about my lifestyle that needs to change to maintain good health.

I personally found the discussion of how stress and fad dieting can cause weight gain very insightful. The book also has excellent and easy to read chapters on metabolic syndrome, a pre-diabetes state that causes heart disease and full blown diabetes if not reversed. The recipes, meal plan and the six-month clinical program in part II of the book are the same as the plan I have followed at Dr. Yavari's center. I recommend this great book to anyone who is tired of fad diets and is interested in living a healthy lifestyle while preventing diabetes

health risk that doctors and consumers are increasingly aware of. It Must Be My Metabolism shows readers, step-by-step, how to make the changes necessary to lose the "apple" shape that so often comes at midlife, and regain both a youthful figure and better health.

Review of Genetic Nutritioneering (Paperback)

The focus on this book is to bring the latest research on how to create from a person's genetic template the best health outcomes as they age using personalized nutrition and lifestyle tailoring. The book is science-basedfrom both the clinical research experiences of the author in the FunctionalMedicine Research Center and from the hundreds of scientific studies fromother researchers cited in the extensive bibliography. This is a "howto" book as much as a description of when, why and where medicine willbe changing to become "personalized medicine" in the 21stcentury.

Product Description
The far-ranging Human Genome Project is producing a breathtaking revolution in health, raising the prospect of averting hereditary "destined" diseases by modifying the expression of genetic traits. Researchers have identified many genes implicated in specific diseases such as cancer, diabetes, and arthritis and have realized that unfavorable genetic messages can be improved by changes in lifestyle, diet, and environment. Genetic Nutrioneering uses detailed questionnaires to show how to "read" genetic characteristics and how specific foods and nutrients can be used to improve gene expression to slow biological aging and reduce the risk of age-related diseases. It covers the use of gene expression for preventing heart disease, cancer, arthritis, and hormone-related problems, and improving immune and nervous system function. A comprehensive nutritional program presents specific foods, supplements, and diet plans that apply these concepts to an individual's needs.

Review of Body by Science: A Research Based Program to Get the Results You Want in 12 Minutes a Week (Paperback)

I have owned 2 copies of Dr. McGuff's self published books "Ultimate Exercise" since 2002. Basically I have been using this routine or a derivative since then. I have also had a few phone consultations with McGuff during those years. These are basically the "Consolidated" type routines from Mike Mentzer's last two published books performed in a Super Slow type cadence.

I agree with all of the routines on the "Global Conditioning" aspect. I myself find that fixing your mind into a once a week frequency becomes fact for you and you may be delighted if you decide to maybe split up the A/B workouts but perform both in one week. You must be very in tune with overtraining but at the same time, not be paranoid and turn it into a Boogieman. Overtraining is not a disease nor is it irreversible. When you find yourself overtraining, cut back. I realize for the High Volume Trainers this is not even an option.

My absolute best results from these routines were in 2007 when I added the Trap Bar Deadlift (done at 2/2 Cadence). This really triggered growth in my body and transferred to all of the other exercises. I was working with 555 pounds on this for low reps (Started at about 365) and did not experience any injuries. This added exercise had to really be monitored because it definitely would lead to overtraining if done along with the other movements.

Lately, I decided to add more exercises and was doing 8 movements once a week and then split it into the A/B (still done during same week) and then used 7 days in between. I have tried 14 day layoffs and I don't care what any studies show, I got weaker, lost size, muscularity and gained fat. Perhaps it was my diet.

As far as John Little, I have used both Max Contraction Training and Static Contraction Training. Besides being almost impossible to perform in a gym, I did not experience any meaningful gains on these routines and got noticeably weaker and smaller until I ended them. They (Sisco and Little) both adamantly claim that these are NOT isometrics yet the verbatim results of Dr. EA Mueller and Dr. Theodore Hettinger's Classic Isometric studies of the mid 1900s are the basis for both of these books. the machines that Sisco peddles are basically big immovable platforms on machines with a tension meter attached. There is no outside resistance of any kind. For isometrics, I will use my body and doorway. Since John Little is co-author of Body by Science I find it valid to question his theories.

A serious question I have about John Little's writings and research is the thoroughly documented and hyped up "Research Programs" like "Nautlus North"always have the subjects making like 200% strength gains after 1.2 workouts yet the experiments never last more than a few weeks (or workouts). He does say in everyone of the books (even the ones he did for Mentzer) "If these people gained that much muscle in just 2 weeks, just think what you can achieve in 1 or 2 years", The experiments (Nautilus North, etc) will never tell us, they only lasted a few weeks. He did have a special follow up web page for Max Contraction Training but that lasted as long as the experiments. No follow through.

I suspect that John Little is on this book because of name recognition. John puts down the Super Slow protocol in both Static Contraction Training and Max Contraction Training. Also, Quoting from another reviewer "It also strikes me as odd that John Little is giving a strongly implied endorsement to full-range exercise, after all the promotion he's done for limited range work & static weight holding. Where do you stand, John Little?"

If anyone has made sustained gains from either MCT or SCT I never heard of them.I know McGuff says to use them for just for short periods of time. I would discard the MCT training totally. I believe John Little will just squeeze hisSCT and the "even more revolutionary" MCT anywhere he can. If you gave SCT and MCT a try, you will have discovered that MCT was a method discovered for Little to distance himself from Sisco rather than a revolutionary form of SCT.

With that being said, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this book especially for the insight in Global Conditioning and the Faux Cardio Culture. I would have enjoyed it more without John Little's 2 cents (Revelation that he can apply his son's 3-way Mentzer Routine to his Max Contraction Training and other Anecdotes) but then again, he may have Tony Robbin's endorse it and make an entire science, philosophy and religion out of it complete with 30 minute infomercials a 20 DVD set and the ability to walk over hot coals at completion.

Seriously though, this book is a big notch for H.I.T. and I totally respect the education, research, personal training experience and passion that Dr. McGuff put into it. As I first stated, I have had phone consultations with him and have nothing but praise and respect for him. His insight on the medical aspects of strength training put him in a different class than most writers.

I also recommend Ellington Darden's "The New Bodybuilding for Old School Results" as a companion volume. Darden's book provides inspiration which really makes you want to hit the vintage Nautilus machines. Ellington Darden also recommends more movements per workout (about 8) and higher frequency. I say the reader experiment what works best for them and then adjust volume and frequency accordingly over time.

Both of these books together provide history, nostalgia and research. They do not contradict each other but compliment. A Yang to the other's Yin. Finally, if you can find a copy of Dr. McGuff's self published "Ultimate Exercise", I would snatch this up.

Review of The Harvard Medical School Guide to Healthy Eating During Pregnancy (Harvard Medical School Guides) (Paperback)

I read this book cover to cover and to be honest, I don't think I learned anything new. In fact there is surprisingly little time devoted to actually how/what to eat! It seems like most of the book is devoted to the idea that how you eat during pregnancy will affect your child's health later in life. So if you need motivation to reach for the veggies everyday, this would be a great book to read. But overall it's the same tips about what to avoid, eat from the food pyramid, etc. Having said that, I gave it four stars because even though the information isn't new, it feels good to get it from a reputable source since half the stuff you read, it's hard to tell if you can trust it. Additionally, there are some wonderful, easy, healthy recipes at the end of the book!

Product Description

No strict diets, no scary guidelines--just the essential nutrition expectant moms need to start their babies on the road to lifelong health

All parents know that kids need nutritious foods as they grow. But new research confirms that what you eats during pregnancy can also profoundly affect the health of your baby when that baby becomes an adult--for better or for worse. Endorsed by the Harvard Medical School and written by one of the world's leading experts in nutrition for pregnant women and babies, this guide offers more solid information and medically sound advice on prenatal nutrition than any other book on the market.

Review of What to Eat: The Ten Things You Really Need to Know to Eat Well and Be Healthy (Paperback)

Is it any surprise to learn that American consumers are being conned by the USDA? Dr. Luise Light's book, "What to Eat; The Ten Things You Really Need to Know to Eat Well and Be Healthy", reads like a detective novel, exposing scathing secrets of corporate and government malfeasance. During her career as the nutrition director for the USDA, Light witnessed the blatantly cozy relationships that existed between the USDA and the food and agricultural lobbies and lobbyists. Not only did she witness the cover-up of an important study linking diet with major chronic diseases, she also witnessed dangerous changes that were made to the 1992 US Food Pyramid Guide to satisfy corporate interests rather than to protect the public's health. In fact, she warned the USDA that those very changes would cause an epidemic of obesity and diabetes, a warning that looks more like prophesy, today. According to Light, "One thing I learned working in the government was that there are no gratuitous acts. Actions and reactions are designed to control the agenda, limit public access to potentially dangerous (to lobbyists) information, and protect under-the-radar arrangements between commercial interests and government agents."

In her new book, Light explains the connection between nutrition and many of the life-threatening chronic diseases prevalent today. Now that she is no longer held back from exposing the truth, she describes the numerous illnesses that are connected to what she calls, "nutritional malaise," including memory loss, loss of balance, depression, sadness, anxiety, pessimism, "road rage", low energy, "mind freeze", eye strain, generalized aches and pains, migraines, abdominal discomfort, frequent colds and flu and massive weight gain. According to Light, these are all indications of "biochemical chaos" that can be corrected with good nutrition. The choice is clear -- you can start eating a balanced diet, based on real food, or you can let your symptoms progress and develop into devastating chronic conditions such as, heart disease, obesity, gastrointestinal disorders, diabetes, high blood pressure, cancer, osteoporosis, asthma, arthritis and many others.

Light has her own testimonial to share about her struggle to regain her health after collapsing with a chronic, disabling illness. Her very inspirational story helps to reinforce her message about the interconnection between nutrition and physical and mental health. Her story will resonate with many individuals struggling today with Irritable Bowel Syndrome, hypothyroidism, depression and unexplained, massive weight gain.

Even though the book tackles a very serious subject, Light manages to imbue it with humor, pointing out the irony of conventional medical approaches. "Don't worry about your diet, we have a pill for that!" Light's book offers practical advice not placebos to cut through the confusion about what's good to eat.

Light assures you that you're not alone if you're having problems understanding the convoluted messages of the government's Dietary Guidelines. She offers simple but easy to understand science-based guidelines of her own, such as these three (out of ten) lucid examples, along with the rationales behind them: Eat a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables; eat whole-grain pasta, rice, breads, and cereals; eat certified organic foods.

Also, she provides her own food pyramid, which is much easier to follow than the one published by the government. Her book is loaded with solutions the USDA didn't offer in their own Food Pyramid issued in 2005. You will learn how to transition to real food in her chapter, "Your Diet Makeover Tool Kit". And, if you're at a loss for how to prepare real food, she also has several, quick, idiot-proof, delicious recipes in her chapter, "What to Cook".

Although her book gives a detailed, easy to grasp account of the problems inherent in the American food system (pesticides, GMO's, acrylamide, MSG, processed foods etc...), she also manages to focus on straightforward and realistic solutions-from what to stock in your larder, to a week's worth of menus, meals and recipes, and practical tips on eating on the road and dining out. Light assures us that real food is not only more nutritious than food out of a box or bag, it tastes better and is more pleasurable and satisfying. Food is meant to be enjoyed, she reminds us.

If you're wondering how our food system deteriorated to the current level, you'll be asking the questions that Light asks and answers in her book, and then wonders, "Why isn't national nutritional improvement getting as much of our attention as a space launch or fighting terrorists?" As a nutritionist she's as upset and disappointed with the situation as you are. She points out what you can do on a personal and community level. Get involved, she says, to protect and preserve your health and your community. Many people are doing just that. Much to the dismay of highly paid lobbyists, efforts are underway to get the junk food out of schools. Some schools are even feeding children fresh, home cooked, organic foods. Imagine that! Despite the myths, children will eat and even come to prefer delicious fresh foods, and reject factory-made fast foods, given the chance, Light tells based on her experience.

For seventy years, the USDA has stood by the theme that "All food is good food". As more and more "chemicalized" foods line our supermarkets shelves, it is less and less true. Light's book is a very fresh and reasoned account of why this concept is flawed and why we need to go back to the basics, choosing whole nutritious foods instead of synthetic designer food products that are designed to sit on a shelf for seven years. Eating well is the solution to many of the health problems we face today, says Light. Buy this book and become part of the growing consumer lobby that is rising up and reclaiming what is rightfully ours - nourishing food.

This book will give you chills but also give you hope that you can eat better, feel better and finally, get straight talk about nutrition.

Review of Eat Fat, Lose Weight (Paperback)

Ann Louise Gittleman is right on the money.I found this book the most important book about dietary fat I have ever read.
I, too, used to subscribe to the "fat-free" lifestyle in sad, desperate attemptsto lose weight. After finding out just how much the body needs fat, especially the right kinds of fat, I realized that I was really"abusing" my body by ignoring it's needs for essential fattyacids.I have added flaxseed oil to my daily regimen and have started toincorporate dietary changes.I do feel much better.
I also appreciatethe scientific evidence that supports her claims. She sheds new light onthe body's need for protein and fat, something that flies in the face oftraditional nutrition advice.Since I've started to give myself moreprotein, I feel fuller longer and my sugar cravings are much reduced.
Ifyou have been living the "Fat-Free Lie," you owe it to yourselfto read this book.I was so engrossed in the thing that I finished it in aday.It is truly breakthrough.

Review of Treating Epilepsy Naturally : A Guide to Alternative and Adjunct Therapies (Paperback)

I am not a neurologist but have a strong personal interest in epilepsy. I read this book with great care. There are many chapters of significant merit including chapters 10-20. These chapters include the seizure taming effects of relaxation and certain types of music, doing things to prevent seizure progression when an aura is felt, lots of general information on epilepsy that is organized on a gender or age basis, the challenges of finding employment, and advice on a whole host of life issues that people with epilepsy often face. These are even more thoroughly covered in a number of other references which I have also read that come from the medical community.

So here is the real issue; what is in chapters 1-9? These chapters are loaded with information on diet, food supplements, vitamins, minerals, oriental medicine and other alternative and complementary approaches to treating epilepsy. As I read the Forward by Russell Blaylock MD and chapters 1-9 I had a growing sense that the author's thesis or belief is that traditional American medical treatment of epilepsy on the whole may do more harm than good and should be avoided if possible and that the natural approach is without risk and should be used preferentially. The real problem with this philosophy is that there are many people out there that will believe such nonsense. Any natural approach has risks as well as possible (if unproven) benefits. I certainly do not want to deny that there are problems associated with traditional medical treatment of epilepsy. Side effects are a real issue and can not be ignored.

The book has many unsubstantiated assertions that would make people think that the medical profession as a whole is uninformed. That is most unfortunate. Here is one example from the Forward;

("Doctors in general have difficulty with biochemistry in medical school......If your doctors do not understand these molecular events how can they efficiently treat your disorder? In addition to this lack of knowledge......" p. iv

Chapter 1 is a testimonial by the author on how she dealt with her epilepsy by eliminating junk food from her diet, switching to wholesome foods, adding herbs to the mix (skullcap and goldenseal), exercising and losing weight. She also decreased the amount of Phenobarbital she was taking. At that point she endorses a definition of drugs as being "poison(s)." The reader is also introduced to Robert Fried Ph.D. (a neuropsychologist?) Dr. Fried allegedly has come to the conclusion that "Seizures are metabolical, (sic) not neurological." Dr. Fried also allegedly feels that seizures are more like a regulatory body-process, like vomiting, rather than a disease process. The seizures are, allegedly according to the author, in a way readjusting the individual's metabolism to attempt to achieve homeostasis. My understanding is that there are some seizures that have a metabolic origin but they are in the minority. Certainly eating better and taking care of one's body should make a difference in overall health. Whether that will cure epilepsy is far from proven.

Chapter 4 starts by stating that if you have seizures it is imperative that you see a physician. That is good advice. An implication is made that hypoglycemia may be a major cause of seizures. Such an assertion ("major cause")is a little bit irresponsible in my opinion. It is correctly pointed out that anticonvulsants can have long-term adverse effects on calcium metabolism and bone health. It is then pointed out that phenytoin (an increasingly infrequently used old line anticonvulsant) contains "Drano" and "antifreeze." Puleeeze give us a break. Most readers should know better than to believe that. The real problem with this book as I see it is that there are people out there that will actually believe these assertions that are thrown in for effect, and may avoid the medical profession and thus deny themselves of the benefits that modern medical science has to offer. I in fact know of one mother that read this book four years ago and then took her daughter off of her medication feeling that it was too toxic to tolerate. The daughter's seizures that had been completely controlled for 9 months returned after 3 weeks and have never been under good control since then, in spite of restarting and then trying other medications. A reference should have been included, to the important studies that show that people that achieve complete control on medication for at least 2 or 4 years, have a high likelihood (better than 50/50) of not needing medications after that point, but that those that go off medication early and relapse are often difficult to control. On the whole this book is not balanced and this is one example where the other side of the picture should have been presented.

Chapter 5 on nutrition is interesting and useful. It is smart to eat right.

A lot of chapter 6, "Foods that Harm" makes sense.

Chapter 7 "Foods that Heal" has some interesting ideas. There is information on food supplements as well. I think a more scientific approach to the use of food supplements could have been taken. The issue of the blood brain barrier is not dealt with. There are many unsubstantiated assertions in this chapter. The section on GABA is a good example of both of these problems. GABA does not cross the blood brain barrier and so orally ingested GABA will not end up in the central nervous system. The section ends by stating that "daily supplementation of 500 to 1,000 mg of GABA has been shown to help prevent seizures." This is an irresponsible statement, that if taken and followed, could cost the individual several hundred dollars a year, and all for naught.

Chapter 8 is about the Ketogenic Diet. Although it can help in those with seizures that are particularly difficult to control, I think that most neurologists would not routinely recommend it. The chapter fails to point out the downside of the ketogenic diet and fails to point out that it will not work unless the patient is truly ketotic. Adding fats to a regular diet to try and achieve some of the benefits of the ketogenic diet will only result in weight gain, elevated serum cholesterol and triglycerides, and possibly exacerbation of seizures. Studies have shown that simply losing weight correlates with better seizure control.

Chapter 9 on herbs is interesting but readers should look to other sources before investing a small fortune on those options. A recent book by Orrin Devinsky, MD takes a critical look at herbs (and other alternative and complementary methods of approaching epilepsy) and cites relevant scientific literature (if it exists) that confirms the value of various herbs.

On the whole I do not feel that this is a balanced book. Nor do I feel that the author intended for it to be a balanced book. The sources cited as experts are too dominated by acquaintances of the author and not enough is cited from peer review scientific literature. There are far too many unsubstantiated assertions. Actually following some of the advice in the book could lead to lost opportunities to get epilepsy under control and could lead to much expense in search of the often elusive goal of effectively treating epilepsy without medication. I cannot recommend this book. I can recommend Dr. Devinsky's book "Complementary and Alternative Therapies for Epilepsy."It is a bit pricy so I recommend borrowing it from your local library unless you are a physician or a hopeless book collector that likes to buy medical texts. I give this book 2 stars because it does have some useful information. The other stuff unfortunately brings it down to a "2."

Review of 100 Weight-Loss Tips that Really Work (Paperback)

I am overweight and I needed a book that, in simple language, will guide me on the appropriate strategies to bring me to "normal" weight. After an exhaustive search, I came across this book and I have never regretted my decision to buy it.

I found the book easy to read and follow and the tips really make sense. I then went about implementing the advice given and it works for me. The book does not suggest quick fix solutions that often do not work and disappoint you but rather provides a methodical approach on what to eat and not to eat, how to effectively burn the fat through simple exercises like walking. The book also dispels many diet and exercise fallacies.

The only drawback with the book is that the author repeats himself often. This is not a major problem, however, as the repetition serves to remind the reader of the main points highlighted before.

Well, I have managed to lose 4 Kg in the past six weeks and I am on target to lose an extra 8 Kg to bring me to a normal, healthy weight with minimal risk of weight related diseases such as high blood pressure, stroke, heart disease or diabetes.

Review of The Fat Flush Plan (Hardcover)

I bought this book, along with the cookbook, on Amazon a month ago and followed the diet plan closely for the first two weeks (I lost 13lbs.) and loosely for another 7-10 days for a total weight loss of 27lbs.It is not the easiest diet to follow, as the flax oil tastes really icky and the flaxseed fiber supplement drink is equally hard to swallow, but if you actually do what the author suggests, you Will lose weight. What I found the most difficult was eating eggs without salt and topping my protein portions with the flax oil as suggested.I think (I cannot prove it with personal research), that flax oil is much the same as linseed oil. It's not the initial taste, but the lingering aftertaste that put me off.I did learn how to cut back on carbs, fats and sodium (it's amazing what you can do with mustard and hot sauce) and did manage to modify my long term dietary intake, but after a month, I wanted to taste a grilled steak with garlic salt and maybe even a touch of butter, not to mention a crusty bit of bread! If you are more committed and have more willpower than I do, you can really lose a significant amount of weight on this plan and alter your palate.I have maintianed my weight loss (except for 4 lbs.), which is probably water weight due to increased sodium intake) and am very happy with the plan.I did lose a good amount of weight and learned alot on how to control portions and refined carbs without any real discomfort. The cookbook has lots of really good recipes, most of which could be elevated to stardom with some off-limits additions of butter! The mock mashed potatoes, using cauliflower was a real hit in my household and is still something I will fix regularly. This is an effective but not entirely painless diet plan suited for someone with real dedication.I thank the author sincerely for the many pounds I lost initially and for the good advice that I continue to follow. It's worth trying, especially if you have 20+ lbs. to lose!

Review of Count Down Your Age: Look, Feel, and Live Better Than You Ever Have Before (Hardcover)

"Count Down Your Age" takes a personalized and wholistic view of health, from an everyday perspective.First, there's the "antiaging test" in the beginning of the book [...]

Then the book offers thoroughly researched and practical plans on lifestyle, nutrition, exercise and medical care.
The plans speak to both vegetarians and nonvegetarians. For me, the most difficult part of the diet plan is that it recommends eating no refined sugar, which would mean no ice cream and cookies. The easiest part of the diet plan is that it recommends eating whole grains, veggies and fruits, which we love.It also recommends eating fish, and YES there is a thorough evaluation of the issue of mercury contamination in fish. One interesting idea about the exercise plan is that we should take up new exercise classes or routines once in a while, in order to keep our minds and bodies sharp and learning new things. Then there are detailed instructions about how to get really effective sleep each night, what affects our sleep, and how to eliminate things which interfere with good sleep.I love about the book that it emphasizes how important it is to laugh, yes LAUGH.Ha, ha ha!!!

The books authors first reveal their own past mistakes and bad habits, and the fulfillment of becoming healthy and strong and shedding those bad habits (and shedding pounds and years!).I like this part, because Dave Bunnell is my father, and I have seen the positive changes in his lifestyle and attitude which inspire me to live better and take better care of my family. You don't have to know the authors to be inspired by the section on their personal lives, but if you have worked in the computer or publishing industry, you can read how Dave used to live during the MacWorld days, and how he's changed. It's inspiring to see how a man approaching sixty can knock off 15 years of his life, but moreso how he changed his definition of success from "having it all" to living well, peaceful and in good health.
