Review of Bursting With Energy: The Breakthrough Method to Renew Youthful Energy and Restore Health (Paperback)

This book takes scientific basics of nutrition and physiology and transcribe them into everyday language. The explanations for why things are the way they are with losing weight are very helpful and provide a moderate level of knowledge, but enough to allow the reader to make informed personal decisions.I especially liked the position the author took of making small changes while building to a bigger goal.We all know of failure from trying to "bite off more than we could chew." Great book!Wonderful lessons!

Product Description
In this updated revision of his acclaimed book, "Bursting with Energy" Dr. Frank Shallenberger makes a clear connection between the amount of energy you have and the amount of aging you do, pointing out that, in medical terms, aging refers to a loss of function, not chronology. A thirty-year old with no loss of function is identical to a twenty-year-old, he says. And the same is true for fully functional people in their sixties-they are the same as thirty-year-olds. According to Shallenberger, the loss of functions that result from aging are themselves the result of energy loss: more energy, less aging; less energy, more aging. When Dr. Shallenberger discusses anti-aging methods, he is actually taling about improving energy production. His work with patients over the years has proven that an energy deficit is the root cause of every disease and sympton, from cancer, to fatigue, to obesity. Dr. Shallenberger believes that knowledge is power. Energy is the key, he says. As you learn to eliminate the bad habits that can seriously impair the production of energy and come o embrace the proven benefits outline in this book, you will discover firsthand the power of having maximum energy. Although you do grow older chronologically, you don't have to keep pace biologically. "Bursting with Energy" is all about feeling younger as you get older.

Review of BodyFueling: Stop Watching Your Weight, Start Fueling Your Life (Paperback)

I'm a pasta and bread sorta person. While listening to my friends complain about headaches and always being hungry while they went the avoid carbs and heavy-on-the-protein diet route, I followed Ms. Landis advice. One year of lots of pasta and bread and munching on carbs whenever I felt hungry, I feel great and look great too! What more could you want?Okay, so I lost a lot of weight, too, without the hunger or the headaches!I'm 32 pounds lighter and gone from size 18 to 14.Next year, maybe size 12, hm?

Product Description

Most Americans don't know how to fuel their bodies for high performance - or even to meet their basic needs. Many think they know because the news or fashion media toss them an occasional piece of information. You manipulate and regiment your diet, but you do not simply eat with confident knowledge about exactly what your body needs, and when, and why.

BodyFueling changes that with user-friendly education about eating and fitness that translates basic science into everyday terms, and deprograms diet thinking - the prevailing body of unhealthy attitudes and beliefs about food and fitness.BodyFueling offers a clear-headed and refreshing look beyond thoughtless diet platitudes, assumptions, and trying to "fix" your body - and a provocative, positive perspective on investing in your health and future.

Eating to fuel your life, you'll enjoy more productivity, stamina, energy, vitality and leanness - and, most importantly, freedom from concern about fat, weight, and food.Eating will become joyful, healthful and satisfying. You'll be a powerfully informed consumer, not a sound-bite victim or a target for fads and fallacies. You won't "have to change your eating" - you'll want to fuel your body.

BodyFueling is not a program. It's not about what you are "allowed" or can't have.Instead of giving you something to follow, it gives you knowledge - and the power to make truly informed choices for the rest of your life.

Review of The Cortisol Connection Diet: The Breakthrough Program to Control Stress and Lose Weight (Paperback)

I don't do stress well at all! After years as a first grade teacher and a stressful personal life, stress almost hospitalized me.Couldn't eat, couldn't sleep.I was running on a pure histamine. My adrenals were shot-no emergency energy!I was covered with rash, depressed when I could come down enough. My muscles were wasting away. Then my thyroid crashed and I could barely drag my legs around to walk. After the thyroid started up again, the doctors "blood type diet" didn't do much. Then I saw an article on Dr. Talbott in a magazine and followed the advice while I waited for the book to arrive.I've only been on the plan for 10 days and the depression is gone and, oh, yes the brain fog.I can do 30 minutes a day on my crosstrainer.I am sleeping better and feel more positive. All this after I had to quit work five years ago because this syndrome is so debilitating.Great book!Read it!Use it!It's for everyone since we're all living under stress.I'm into The Cortison Connection now.I fell like I'm giving myself a second chance at life and loving it.
If you're tired of starving to loose weight and want to eat to achieve a healthy body and spirit, this is the best.I don't have those awful sugar cravings anymore. Did I mention I was on heavy Prednisone for five years and had drug-induced hypoglycemia?Anyway, this food plan (it's not a diet because you're never hungry) is perfect.I was never able to get the weight to drop off and now it's coming off.
Thanks, Dr. Talbott.People like you come along far too infrequently.Penecillin and the polio vaccines for the 20th century.Obesity for the 21st!If anyone should question this books importance, open your eyes to how few fit people you see. We've been "digging our own graves with a spoon"! Examine the statistics. It makes perfect SENSE. It's soooo simple!

Product Description
In his best-selling The Cortisol Connection, Dr. Shawn Talbott explained how elevated levels of the cortisol hormone, when triggered by stress, will increase appetite, enhance fat storage, disrupt blood sugar control, and eventually lead to obesity that can cause diabetes and other serious conditions. This concise follow-up puts Talbott's cortisol control, diet, and exercise ideas into an accessible format.
The Cortisol Connection Diet shows beleaguered dieters how to eat for quality and for quantity at every meal. It focuses on the quality of carbs, fats, and proteins as well as the quantity, and explains how to use food, exercise, and dietary supplements to control cortisol and blood sugar. Most importantly, the book shows readers how to change their metabolic response to food and shed those seemingly impossible last 20 pounds. Included are a three-week log to chart diet, exercise, and supplements; and a sample regimen for breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, and supplements.

Review of Life Without Bread: How a Low-Carbohydrate Diet Can Save Your Life (Paperback)

Life Without Bread is an important addition to the growing body of literature on the benefits and importance of low-carb diet.Written by Christian Allan, Ph.D., and Wolfgang Lutz, M.D., the book is based on Dr.Lutz's experience using carbohydrate restricted diets with thousands ofpatients for over 40 years. It is also based on extensive research in themedical and scientific literature, and provides ample references. The bookpresents a more or less unified theory of how high (and even"moderate") levels of dietary carbohydrate cause or exacerbatevarious health problems, and how carbohydrate restriction can help peopleto recover from those problems.Although obesity is one of the problems, this is not primarily a weight-loss book. There is only one short chapteron weight loss.Other chapters deal with heart disease, gastrointestinaldisorders (e.g., Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis), auto-immunedisorders, and so on.There is also discussion of dietary carbohydratefrom the perspective of humanity's adaptation to the conditions of the longPleistocene era.
Life Without Bread accomplishes a number of importantthings.First, it collects a body of evidence for the low-carb way ofeating that is carefully thought out, and based on sound research andextensive clinical experience.Second, it debunks the pervasivecholesterol neurosis that has made much of the developed world phobic aboutfats. This is very important, since there are still relatively fewscientists willing to put their reputations on the line in opposition tothe cholesterol theory of heart disease.Allan and Lutz join their ranks. Third, it offers good arguments for the positive virtues of saturatedanimal fats, perhaps the most maligned dietary suspects of the past 100years.The authors are careful to distinguish levels of support for theirclaims; when they are somewhat speculative, they say so.They also pointout some of the limitations of the low-carb program, and do not claim it tobe a panacea.Fourth, they refute the many lame and ill-informedcriticisms of low-carb diets that one encounters again and again in thepopular (and, unfortunately, sometimes also in the scientific) literature-- such as the claim that these diets harm the kidneys or cause musclewasting.
For anyone who wants to gain a clearer understanding of thebenefits of low-carb diets, or to explain them to someone else (such as afamily physician, perhaps), this book is a valuable resource.
