Review of Triathlete Magazine's Complete Triathlon Book: The Training, Diet, Health, Equipment, and Safety Tips You Need to Do Your Best (Paperback)

I am a beginner triathlete and I really thought this book covered the basics and then some.I am a marathoner so I didn't really go over the running section but the bike and swim sections were great for learning basics and getting some drill and cycling advice.
However, the one obvious thing missing in this book for me was training schedules.Not one in the whole book!That is really what I was looking for as a beginner because I didn't quite know how to structure my workouts on a daily basis.I did findquite a few training schedules on the internet though, and I recently bought a book with training schedules in it, so it wasn't a big deal.I found this book to be very complete in all other aspects of the triathlon so far.

Review of Runner's World The Runner's Body: How the Latest Exercise Science Can Help You Run Stronger, Longer, and Faster (Runners World) (Paperback)

I think this book presents a lot of good information, but it shockingly lacks references or a bibliography. The whole premise of the book is that the authors - 2 of whom have PhD's - are reviewing current studies on running. But they don't cite the studies, many of which I would like to take a peek at. How can two guys with doctorates write something and not provide their references? In college we would be accused of academic misconduct for doing that.

Assuming the information is accurate, I think this is a good review. It's a little wordy and blathers on in some places, as if trying to add some meat. For the price, it's worth the read. There are a couple of annoying editorial mistakes, like missing graphics, but that's sort of forgivable.

Review of Runner's World Performance Nutrition for Runners: How to Fuel Your Body for Stronger Workouts, Faster Recovery, and Your Best Race Times Ever (Runners World) (Paperback)

I found this book a great asset to my running training.Matt Fitzgerald does a great job of explaining the reasons for the different enegy sources.He also tells how to get the proper amounts of protien from more that just meat sources. I'm only an "hobby" runner for fitness & health (to maintain a 100# wt loss) but this book made me feel like I could do more than I thought I could.I was hoping to cut 30-45 mins off my time. After reading and applying the info in this book I was able to fule myself for my 2nd marathon good enough to cut 58 minutes of my 1st marathon's time.I was able to run harder during the marathon (I had a faster 2nd half) & recovered better after it.It's easy to read & understand.I'm glad it's part of my fittness library.
