Review of The Protein Power Lifeplan (Paperback)

Drs. Michael and Mary Dan Eades follow up the runaway success of their first book, Protein Power, with another avalanche of evidence that the conventional low-fat, high-carb diet is a huge failure.
Instead of simplyrehashing material from their first book (as many diet authors do), theEades expand on the Protein Power concept to help improve long-term successon it. From a fascinating trip through the human digestive system, to new, damaging information about artificial sweeteners, this book will foreverchange the way you think about the power of food.
For high-carb punditswho think humans have always been grain-eaters, the Eades' chapter on thelatest paleopathological research settles the argument once and forall...we were hunters (and gatherers, but only on occasion) and our bodiesare designed to thrive on protein and good fats.
The chapter on sunlightis also refreshing...shedding new (pardon the pun) light on its healingpowers when used correctly. Read this chapter before you put on sunblockagain.
In addition to these and other fascinating chapters on health, thedoctors also have refined the Protein Power Plan itself. Anyone who saysprotein diets are too limited and boring need to read this new book. You'llsee that the food choices are quite varied, and you don't have to be adietary extremist to thrive on the plan (unless that's your choice).I'vebeen on it for over 2 years---it's done wonders for me.
The book getstechnical at times, but the effect is more engrossing than boring, I assureyou. The summaries at the end of each chapter help condense the contentinto laymen's terms for quick reference.
The writing is on the wall. Protein diets are proving to be so overwhelmingly effective that it'ssimply a matter of time before the diet industry and the government throwout the horrifically unsuccessful "food pyramid." My advice is toget the paperback edition of Protein Power, and then a copy of the newProtein Power Lifeplan. If the doctors can't convince you of the powerfultherapeutic effects of simple nutrition, no one can.
Five stars...anddeep thanks to the doctors for restoring me to my high school weight whilemaking me feel years younger.

Review of Protein Power: The High-Protein/Low-Carbohydrate Way to Lose Weight, Feel Fit, and Boost Your Health--in Just Weeks! (Paperback)

Dec 2008: I just came across this review and reread it.It is 8 years later and it is still all true.I have had to fight with my weight (I absolutely love to eat) and have had to remind myself that calories count as well. The news is that even after 8 years my glucose tests (A1C blood test) come back excellent, my cholesterol is still at the same levels and my weight is not quite as great as 8 years ago but it is still way better than 220 (I am at 180).I owe the continued improvement in my health to the premises in this book.

July 2000: The past ten years have been hell.I had high cholesterol, high triglycerides and Diabetes, Type II.I was totally unable to get my weight to a reasonable level.I was dieting, exercising, riding a bike 5 days aweek, and doing everything I was told, but my weight hit a wall at 224pounds.

I discovered Protein Power, read it and gave it a try.In only8 weeks I had lost inches from my waist and dropped 20 pounds.Today, after 1.5 years I am in the best health of my life, I weigh 170 lbs, I havestopped taking the Lipator. My blood tests show that my cholesterol, triglycerides and sugar levels are all perfect.

The results are exactlywhat the authors predicted - control the Insulin enemy through diet and thebody will clean itself up and function properly. They presented me an easyto understand explanation of what happens inside my body and how to controlit. They gave me a life style and eating regimen I can maintain the restof my life.My advice to you is buy it, try it and live longer and betterwith it.It is simple!

Review of The Low-Carb Cookbook (Mass Market Paperback)

I fell in love at page 13. Fran M. has written many other cookbooks and read even more; she is truly a gourmand. Now she's discovered low-carb! This book is a must for the low carb kitchen: A great foreword with themedical lowdown on low-carb; a section on "the low carb gurus"comparing and contrasting Atkins, Zone, Protein Power, etc; a great"Panty" section telling what to throw out of your cupboards (orgive away); how to entertain non-low-carb'ing friends; this book is filledwithuseful sections. Oh, and the recipes!I started this diet eatingcheese, meat, and meat with cheese on it.What variety I've found here! Some recipes are more exotic, and some suited for "weekday"cooking.Desserts!Strawberry gelati! Cheesecake!Chocolate mousse! (Imay have to get that ice-cream maker).
THANK YOU!(Could the nextedition have photos please? And a longer index?)Note: The"Sources" section with where to get low-carb pantry staples isworth it alone!
