Review of 1,001 Low-Fat Vegetarian Recipes, 2nd ed. (Paperback)

I suppose, like the reviewer above said, that this isn't a beginning vegetarians cookbook, in the sense that it does not guide you through what it means to be vegetarian etc, etc, BUT, I'd like to point out that nowhere on the book does it say that is what it is (there are books for that).I also will agree that yes, in SOME of the recipies there are strange ingredients: fat-free half and half, cactus paddles, flavored cooking sprays... but there are over 1,000 recipies!Of course they had to get creative!
I think this cookbook is excellent, if you've been a vegetarian for awhile, and you like to cook, then this book is perfect for spicing up your everyday cuisine. The recipies are easy to follow, and so far (I've cooked a lot of dishes from this book) almost everything has been yummy.I'd like to add that if I can't find something I substitute.I use veggie bullion in place of stocks, and skim milk in place of fat free half and half, and I've never had any problems. The book has widened my scope on mixing vegetarian ingredients, enabling me to scan my pantry and whip up combinations I'd never thought of before. There is so much to chose from that you can keep it simple or get a little fancy!
Highly recommended!

Review of 1,001 Low-Fat Desserts (Paperback)

Anyone who enjoys desserts but is concerned with fat intake should buy this book. The recipes are varied, ranging from classics to new inventions. The difficulty levels also vary, so it is easy to choose a quick and simplerecipe when in a hurry. This is a good reference that will be used for manyyears. Results are predictable and the taste is satisfactory.
However, one cannot expect these recipes to produce the sinfully rich and delicioustaste of high fat recipes. After all, fat adds the flavor! So, the butterand sugar recipes will still remain number 1 in my heart.

Review of The Vegetarian Gourmet's Easy Low-Fat Favorites (Paperback)

I bought this book about a year ago after I decided I wanted to be a vegetarian, but had no clue how to prepare meals w/o meat.Hinman's book is definately full of great ideas.I have used so many of the recipes that the pages of the books are stained or torn from so much use.
The book is divided into several sections including: salads and dressings, grains, pastas, stove top dishes, casseroles, breads, fruits, vegetables, soups, desserts, and beverages.Definately full of recipes that have plenty of protein w/o tons of fat or calories. It is so easy to make some of these. Most recipes can be done in under 1/2 an hour.Even my texan, meat eating family has enjoyed the cooking from this recipe book. It is a MUST BUY!
