The Double Energy Diet has helpful, healthful information on how to double ones energy naturally. I especially enjoyed the chapters on Raising Healthy Energized Kids and Power through Pregnancy. I had to take notes on all the excellent and innovative ways to have more energy. I especially loved the recipes in the book. Over 70 sugar free, plant based easy to make recipes in the book. This past weekend I had my kids pick out recipes they liked in the book, and then we had fun going to the store, picking out the foods, and making the tasty recipes! I bought three copies of this book last week to give to my sister and friends. Kudos to Judi and Shari Zucker, The Double Energy Twins inspiring all of us to live a more energized and healthier lifestyle

Review of The Power of Your Plate: A Plan for Better Living Eating Well for Better Health-20Experts Tell You How! (Paperback)

This was one of the first books I read years ago (now updated). It changed my life forever. What blew me away was the number of medical professionals who all sang from the same songbook. This ought to be required reading for every elected official and every government employee. Maybe you can read it and then send your rep or doctor a copy. :)

Review of Delicious Food for a Healthy Heart: Over 120 Cholesterol-Free, Low-Fat, Quick & Easy Recipes (Paperback)

This book has over 120 heart healthy, delicious recipes for vegans and non-vegans alike! Let me get this out of the way...my absolute, hands down, favorite recipe in this book: "Linguine With Spicy Red Garbanzo Sauce". The simplicity of the healthful ingredients was a real shock to me. I figured ok, another spaghetti recipe...It is so much more. Serve it with some "Cheezy Garlic Bread" and a spinach salad topped with "Tomato-Garlic Dressing". Do your palate and your heart a favor...With a mere 21 calories and 0 fat, this dressing packs a punch! Of course if you've been missing ranch, there is the "Classic Ranch Dressing" to try as well...so creamy! The "Moroccan CousCous" is authentic and tasty. I love it! "Garlic Infused Smashed Potatoes" are heavenly when smothered in "Golden Gravy". It almost seems wrong that there is 0 guilt associated with these dishes! Looking for breakfast? Try what is (in my opionion) a vegan's best friend...flax! The "Flaxjacks" on page 40 are a tasty way to start your day right. I like to top them with "Peanut Whip" instead of jam. "Tropical Style Museli" is filling and healthful, I love it with a dash of vanilla rice milk.
Of course there are too many recipes to review them all here, but I always save room for dessert...in this book namely the "Apple Crisp". Simple, traditional and stunning...a real crowd-pleasing crisp.
This book is chock full of recipes, 14 days of menus, information to keep your heart happy and extensive information on ingredients. I like that the grain section even offers pressure-cooker alternatives for most of the dishes.

Review of Low Carb Vegetarian (Paperback)

I was excited to order this being vegan, but I was so disappointed upon receiving it, to discover that almost every recipe called for a processed meat substitute like deli slices, sausages, meat sub crumbles etc, or tofu.
Even when a dish has a solid complete protein in it , like beans, the author still adds tofu. Even the hummus had tofu in it....totally unneccesary.
To use this you will be investing heavily in Morningstar and Boca type products and eating a lot of soy.
I dont want to pretend I'm eating meat with each meal. My omnivore partner doesnt like fake meats either, so theres not much that suited our tastes for natural low carb natural wholesome vegetarian dishes.
There's not even a recipe for homemade seitan which is a wonderful low carb veggie staple.
There's tofu in just about every dessert - bleurgh!
Its a relatively thin book with no pictures besides the front cover which features fake meats predominately - should have looked at the picture on Amazon before I ordered.
I have done vegan low carb for a while and KNOW there's better recipes than this to be made.
I ordered at the same time the wonderful Veganomicon, so I think I'll be subbing out the high carb flours for low carb & getting far more use from that book instead.
Sorry! I really wanted to like this but honestly I wish I'd got a different veggie low carb book.
