Review of Eat Fat, Lose Weight (Paperback)

Ann Louise Gittleman is right on the money.I found this book the most important book about dietary fat I have ever read.
I, too, used to subscribe to the "fat-free" lifestyle in sad, desperate attemptsto lose weight. After finding out just how much the body needs fat, especially the right kinds of fat, I realized that I was really"abusing" my body by ignoring it's needs for essential fattyacids.I have added flaxseed oil to my daily regimen and have started toincorporate dietary changes.I do feel much better.
I also appreciatethe scientific evidence that supports her claims. She sheds new light onthe body's need for protein and fat, something that flies in the face oftraditional nutrition advice.Since I've started to give myself moreprotein, I feel fuller longer and my sugar cravings are much reduced.
Ifyou have been living the "Fat-Free Lie," you owe it to yourselfto read this book.I was so engrossed in the thing that I finished it in aday.It is truly breakthrough.

Review of The Gut Flush Plan : The Breakthrough Cleansing Program to Rid Your Body of the Toxins That Make You Sick, Tired, and Bloated (Hardcover)

I have been a big ALG fan for a while, but this book takes it a little too far.A few things I noticed (I did not read from cover to cover)

--This book seems to almost require purchase of her products, which was not necessary to follow her plans in previous books. So I find that annoying.Buy my book and then my products.
--She is really moving to germaphobe land in my opinion.I can understand skipping the salad bar to avoid bacteria and stuff, but she seems to question having pets. She does not say get rid of your animals, restrict your contact, you get the idea.Really drifting toward living in a bubble.

I guess if you are really sick and not digesting food well this might be the book for you.But if you are just looking to feel and be more healthy and/or lose some weight, try the Fat Flush Plan and/or the Detox.I know when I do the original Fat Flush I feel great physically, emotionally, my skin clears, etc. However, this book just goes too far for my lifestyle to be actually doable.

Review of The Fat Flush Plan (Hardcover)

I bought this book, along with the cookbook, on Amazon a month ago and followed the diet plan closely for the first two weeks (I lost 13lbs.) and loosely for another 7-10 days for a total weight loss of 27lbs.It is not the easiest diet to follow, as the flax oil tastes really icky and the flaxseed fiber supplement drink is equally hard to swallow, but if you actually do what the author suggests, you Will lose weight. What I found the most difficult was eating eggs without salt and topping my protein portions with the flax oil as suggested.I think (I cannot prove it with personal research), that flax oil is much the same as linseed oil. It's not the initial taste, but the lingering aftertaste that put me off.I did learn how to cut back on carbs, fats and sodium (it's amazing what you can do with mustard and hot sauce) and did manage to modify my long term dietary intake, but after a month, I wanted to taste a grilled steak with garlic salt and maybe even a touch of butter, not to mention a crusty bit of bread! If you are more committed and have more willpower than I do, you can really lose a significant amount of weight on this plan and alter your palate.I have maintianed my weight loss (except for 4 lbs.), which is probably water weight due to increased sodium intake) and am very happy with the plan.I did lose a good amount of weight and learned alot on how to control portions and refined carbs without any real discomfort. The cookbook has lots of really good recipes, most of which could be elevated to stardom with some off-limits additions of butter! The mock mashed potatoes, using cauliflower was a real hit in my household and is still something I will fix regularly. This is an effective but not entirely painless diet plan suited for someone with real dedication.I thank the author sincerely for the many pounds I lost initially and for the good advice that I continue to follow. It's worth trying, especially if you have 20+ lbs. to lose!

Review of Get the Salt Out: 501 Simple Ways to Cut the Salt Out of Any Diet (Paperback)

"Get the Salt Out" does indeed contain 501 numbered suggestiond for cutting salt from your diet.A number of these suggestions overlap, but I was impressed by the thoroughness of the book.I have high blood pressure and have been on a low-salt diet for years; however, this book alerted me to many hidden sources of sodium, such as baking soda and packaged cereals. The book is split into sections, such as getting the salt out of cooking, finding good low-salt fast food, and low-salt sauces. The author even points out that licking postage stamps adds sodium to your diet! That's thoroughness!
The book also contains a number of low-salt recipes scattered throughout (at least 50).In addition, Gittleman discusses the various types of salt/sodium and gives recommendations about how to avoid unnecessary processed sodium in favor of healthier (and tastier) natural salt. The author gives numerous suggestions about low-sodium products that can be purchased in stores or on-line.I have a number of low-salt cookbooks, but this book is the best in combining recipes with solid suggestions.A real winner, and I look forward to using these suggestions to further reduce my sodium intake.
