Review of Suzanne Somers' Get Skinny on Fabulous Food (Paperback)

This book had a lot of the same information as Suzanne Somer's other book on Somersizing "Eat Great, Lose Weight", however, this book has some updates to the original book as well as many more wonderful recipes.I originally started the Somersizing program after hearing that it could level out hormones.Having had two diseases that related to an imbalance in hormones, the idea that this program could balance out my hormones was the big draw.I did have some weight to lose, but that was not the major incentive for starting this program. After 10 weeks on the program, I never felt better in my life.I'm menopausal, but my hot flashes and night sweats have diminished to almost non-existent.I'm eating well and plenty and have so much energy. Oh, and I've lost 19 pounds to date. Some of my friends also started the program when I told them how well I was doing. All have had good results so far.One friend, who is diabetic, is amazed that her blood levels are the same all day. There are no more drastic spikes.Food combining can be a little tough to understand in the beginning, but once you master it, it is not that difficult to maintain. The main problem is the way that we have been conditioned here in the United States to eat over the years (pizza, white pasta with meat sauce, hamburgers, meat and potatoes and chemically altered foods that sit on the shelf for years). I highly recommend this way of eating to anyone who wants to feel healthy and slim down.

Review of The Smart Carb Guide to Eating Out (Mass Market Paperback)

In this type of society where men as well as women work, there is not enough time to prepare a healthy meal.
Thanks to Tracy Jones I can eat the right food outside the home.I can work and know that I always can go to a fast food or family restaurant and get the right amount of food without worrying about counting my calories or carbs.
Another important benefit of following the menus she describes in this book is the level of energy that you have after eating. I can go back to work and I have such a high level of energy that you might think that I took a nap.I am now alert all the time and I am not hungry for four hours since I feel satisfied with what I ate. Finally, the snacks in between keeps me going the rest of the day.
I also really enjoy the recipies of the salads that I can prepare at home.
Furthermore, my insulin level is going to be controlled because I am eating a balance diet (40-30-30).I will be a healthy person.
This book explains the diet in a very simple and easy way to follow.
Thank you for making one part of my life easier.

Product Description
A fast-food diet? It may seem like an oxymoron, but for the millions of Americans living a low-carb lifestyle-many of whom still end up eating on the run at fast-food joints and sitting down with their families at chain restaurants-The Smart-Carb Guide to Eating Out shows how to stick to a low-carb diet when eating on the go.

Rather than simply listing the nutritional content and requiring us to do the math ourselves to figure out what to eat, Tracy Jones, M.S., provides a shortcut by listing which menu items (or combination of menu items) compose a smart-carb meal that is compatible with The Zone, South Beach, or any 40-30-30 diet. The book also provides calorie and carb content so that readers can easily customize meals to meet their own nutritional needs. And with the help of the 7-Day Quick Start Program, readers can quickly implement their favorite fast-food meals-like the Classic Single hamburger and Junior Frosty at Wendy's-to jump-start their weight loss.

Review of It Must Be My Metabolism (Paperback)

I found this book incredibly helpful for I finally understand why the fad diets just don't work. This book is not just another diet book nor is it a weight loss book; so don't expect to find weight loss tricks here and there. I have used this book as part of the program offered at the Doctor's center in Connecticut. For the first time in my life I am losing weight while I am eating plenty of healthy foods. I feel satisfied, calm, and much happier, plus I am exercising and enjoying it too! I feel great and have more energy than ever. The best part is that my health has dramatically improved. Finally, I am learning that it is not about dieting as much as it is about my lifestyle that needs to change to maintain good health.

I personally found the discussion of how stress and fad dieting can cause weight gain very insightful. The book also has excellent and easy to read chapters on metabolic syndrome, a pre-diabetes state that causes heart disease and full blown diabetes if not reversed. The recipes, meal plan and the six-month clinical program in part II of the book are the same as the plan I have followed at Dr. Yavari's center. I recommend this great book to anyone who is tired of fad diets and is interested in living a healthy lifestyle while preventing diabetes

First recognized by the World Health Organization in 1998, metabolic syndrome has become one of the hottest topics in health care. When combined, these disorders pose a serious

health risk that doctors and consumers are increasingly aware of. It Must Be My Metabolism shows readers, step-by-step, how to make the changes necessary to lose the "apple" shape that so often comes at midlife, and regain both a youthful figure and better health.

Review of 100 Best Weight-Loss Tips (Hardcover)

Diet, nutrition, and exercise expert Fred Stutman, M.D. presents 100 Best Weight-Loss Tips, a compendium that distills vital information to bite-sized bits for anyone striving to reach and maintain a healthy weight. From warning against common myths such as "Running and strenuous aerobic exercies are the best way to lose weight" (in fact, walking andmoderate exercises burn fat during the first two-thirds of the workout, while strenuous exercises burn carbohydrates during the first two-thrids of the workout and fat during the last one-third), to the severe health dangers of low-carb diets, to why one should weigh oneself weekly instead of daily (there is often a "plateu" period where weight gain levels off - and it's unwise to trigger either the urge to celebrate with daily decreases, or the depressive tendency to give up if one's weight doesn't immediately decrease). A highly recommended, practical, straight-facts health guide for all Americans.

Product Description
100 Best Weight-Loss Tips provides a dynamic course of action for those interested in losing weight quickly and safely. This book translates the science behind diet and nutrition and presents suggestions for a healthy lifestyle in language which is easy to understand.Dr. Stutman also illustrates how low-carbohydrate diets are extremely dangerous to your health and invariably lead to rebound weight gain once stopped.

Review of Eat Fat, Lose Weight (Paperback)

Ann Louise Gittleman is right on the money.I found this book the most important book about dietary fat I have ever read.
I, too, used to subscribe to the "fat-free" lifestyle in sad, desperate attemptsto lose weight. After finding out just how much the body needs fat, especially the right kinds of fat, I realized that I was really"abusing" my body by ignoring it's needs for essential fattyacids.I have added flaxseed oil to my daily regimen and have started toincorporate dietary changes.I do feel much better.
I also appreciatethe scientific evidence that supports her claims. She sheds new light onthe body's need for protein and fat, something that flies in the face oftraditional nutrition advice.Since I've started to give myself moreprotein, I feel fuller longer and my sugar cravings are much reduced.
Ifyou have been living the "Fat-Free Lie," you owe it to yourselfto read this book.I was so engrossed in the thing that I finished it in aday.It is truly breakthrough.

Review of The No-Beach, No-Zone, No-Nonsense Weight-Loss Plan: A Pocket Guide to What Works (Paperback)

No-nonsense style, very concise (except for various calculation examples, which might be good, as math literacy is alien concept for most).

About myself: 12 years ago I was 160 lbs. (I am 5'9"). Once I hit 230 lbs a few weeks back, I got myself a stack of books, including this one, to avoid previous failures (210 lbs to 190 lbs 2 years ago and gaining it all back and some more).

Jim Johnson's advice was instrumental in setting up my diet and stopping systemic overeating. So now I am under 218 lbs and feeling great on 1500 calories a day. Even more importantly, now I know there is no quick fix - one has to change a lifestyle. It is all about patience, perseverance and will to treat your body right.

The only suggestion: to count calories use software, not paper. I use FitDay.com - it's free.

Product Description
Created for the dieter who would rather follow science than the latest fad or celebrity, this book synthesizes years of research to present one dependable weight loss plan that really works. Using a combination of consistently proven diet and exercise strategies that require no special props or aids, readers are shown reliable ways to get weight off and keep it off. Information on calculating calorie needs, determining BMI (body mass index), and working out percentages of fats, carbs, and proteins in a diet are offered. The author leaves nothing to hypothesis, giving the truth about cellulite and how to tell when one's weight is a health risk. Fact is better than fiction where successful weight-loss is concerned and this book delivers all the scientific findings concisely in a convenient format.

Review of The Body Restoration Plan (Paperback)

Dr. Paula Baillie-Hamilton is a British medical doctor who also has a doctorate in human metabolism from the University of Oxford. As a Visiting Fellow in Occupational and Environmental Health at Stirling University and an adviser to the Soil Association in England, she is an acknowledged expert on the information covered by this book.
Dr Baillie-Hamilton's research has revealed that our bodies' natural weight-regulation system can be severely damaged by toxic chemicals we encounter in our everyday lives in our food, water, air, cosmetics, household products and the packaging of consumer items. These toxins interfere with our metabolic and appetite-regulating systems and make us fat by causing us to store more fat than we would if our bodies weren't invaded by toxins.
Since fat is the major place where toxins are stored in our bodies, the doctor offers an eating plan that will take off weight slowly through mild calorie reduction to avoid flooding the bloodstream with poisons that were stored in fat, which can sometimes lead to "detoxifying" symptoms such as nausea, diarrhea and headaches. In addition, the doctor's eating plan consists of three main factors: (1) Try to eat only organic foods, but if you can't, use the food lists the doctor provides which rate foods by how compromised by pesticides they are and/or prepare your food in a way that removes as many toxic chemicals as possible; (2) drink filtered water; (3) avoid using toxic chemicals in your home (e.g., pesticides, chemical cleaning products, strong perfumes and dyes, smoking), and air out your house to avoid toxic air buildup.
One of my favorite parts of the book is an extremely well-done section on common environmental toxins and how they get into our food supply, including: (1) the class of chemicals called organophosphates were initially developed for biochemical warfare and are now used as one of the most common pesticides on fruit and vegetables as well as routinely fed to livestock to fatten them up; (2) carbamates are used as fungicides and pesticides on fruits and vegetables and are also used to fatten up livestock; (3) anti-thyroid drugs are banned in England (she makes no mention of banning in the US) for direct use in livestock to suppress the function of the thyroid so they will get fatter, but similar compounds are still commonly used in the UK and US as pesticides on fruits and vegetables--which people and livestock eat; (4) steroids fatten up livestock by causing water retention and creating a ravenous appetite for carbohydrates--recently banned in Europe, they are still widely used in the US; (5) antibiotics aren't merely given to livestock to wipe out disease, they are also purposely routinely given in minute dosages in order to destroy weight-control hormones and greatly lower metabolism, both of which cause livestock to store excessive fat; (6) organochlorines are extremely toxic pesticides whose most deadly forms (DDT, lindane, PCBs) have been banned in Europe and the US, but they are still almost universally present in animals and humans in North America and Europe for two main reasons: they have not been banned in many countries from which produce is imported into the US and Europe, and animal and human bodies find it almost impossible to throw them off, causing them to persist in fat tissue for decades.
This book is clearly written, flows logically from topic to topic, and provides a detailed table of contents, an index, an appendix of toxic chemicals, a glossary, a comprehensive list of references, and a list of referral websites, including the author's. I especially applaud this book's "hook," that being environmentally poisoned can make you fat. Hopefully this approach will catch the attention of a large number of the millions of dieters in this country who currently are only wanting to lose weight for vanity's sake, rather than for health reasons. Fortunately for them, if they follow this book's recommendations, they can kill two birds with one stone, satisfy their mirror and stave off future health problems, too.
For those people who aren't just overweight but have health problems as well, particularly an inflammation-based disorder (a tip-off you have this is that your doctor is prescribing anti-inflammatory medication), I highly recommend reading in addition to this book the following: The Inflammation Cure : How to Combat the Hidden Factor Behind Heart Disease, Arthritis, Asthma, Diabetes, & Other Diseases, by William Joel Meggs, et al., and The Inflammation Syndrome, by Jack Challem. They cover a vital issue regarding environmental toxins which Dr. Baillie-Hamilton does not: toxins in food, water, air, etc. not only make you fat, they also create an inflammatory process in the body which can lead to many serious diseases. In addition, obesity itself can become an inflammatory condition--very likely because bodily fat, as Dr. Baillie-Hamilton points out, it is a storehouse for toxic chemicals.
Finally, there is one toxic chemical found in our air, water and food (it is yet another fattening agent given to livestock) which neither Baillie-Hamilton, Meggs nor Challem directly discuss: the estrogen-like compounds called xenoestrogens. These toxins also store in body fat and wreak havoc on both female and male endocrine systems--they are linked in females to onset of puberty as early as age nine and breast cancer later in life, shrinking sexual organs and loss of potency in males, and sterility in both sexes. Fortunately, the recommendations of this book will also defend you from xenoestrogens, but if you want further information, and even more protection, I highly recommend any of the several books by Dr. John Lee who has written extensively about using natural progesterone to counteract the damage of xenoestrogens to the body. His books are directed at women, but mention is made in them that men can use natural progesterone, too, to combat xenoestrogens. Dr. Lee's work will also make clear why some women find that when they lose weight they experience distressingly heavy menstrual flow--this can sometimes result due to a too-rapid release into the bloodstream of xenoestrogens previously stored in fat.

Product Description
Toxic chemicals damage the metabolic and appetite-regulating mechanisms of the body's natural Slimming System, a vast network of important body functions that maintain and control proper weight. In this groundbreaking book, Dr. Paula Baillie-Hamilton shows how to identify, avoid, and manage the negative effects of what she calls Chemical Calories with:

* detailed food guides enumerating the levels of Chemical Calories in common foods;
* helpful tips on how to rid the home of dangerous toxins;
* detoxifying menu plans and recipes; and
* natural supplement programs to restore and energize the body's Slimming System.

Review of Suzanne Somers' Eat, Cheat, and Melt the Fat Away (Paperback)

After being a strict vegetarian for 15 years (and teaching cooking classes at a health foods complex), I was highly skeptical about Suzanne's system. But I'm a researcher, and I did my homework. Food combining is, indeed, an old and accepted theory of healthy eating. This is not an anti-carbo "diet"; it calls for the healthy food groups, only in different combinations so that insulin levels aren't spiked, thus causing the body to store calories as fat.
After reaching 50 and having a size 6 lean, mean machine, I suddenly put on matronly inches. Whose waistline was I seeing in the mirror anyway? Certainly not MINE! I couldn't fit into my clothes. Menopause wreaked havoc with my body. My low-fat vegetarianism didn't work at all for me anymore. All my workouts (Pilates, etc.) couldn't trim the excess inches I was continually adding. I began to feel desperate and out of control. So, as a last resort, I tried Somersizing.
I have known Suzanne was a fabulous cook ever since discovering an article about her culinary expertise 20 years ago. But these recipes and these sauces, in particular, are extraordinary! The latest book with its zucchini noodles, parmesan sauce, mozzarella marinara, and other delectable goodies is a triumph! I love to cook again! The simple wine reduction sauces are fabulous. The information about good fats is "freeing"! My husband and I are losing inches and eating tremendous food. My body is returning to its size 6 dimensions. I couldn't be more positive about this program. The information by Suzanne's endocrinologist is right on-target. It all comes together and finally makes sense. If you don't want to do the program, at least make the delectable foods! And if you DO want to follow the program, buen apetito and viva the weight loss! Also note: Suzanne's no-chemicals, no-preservatives sugar substitute, Somersweet, is due out in May. Another breakthrough for healthy cooks who have had to do without sugar for years. This woman is no dumb blonde. She's on the cutting edge!

Review of The Ram Nut Diet (Paperback)

The Ram Nut Diet offers a new approach for weight loss that incorporates nuts in the diet as a means to reduce carbohydrates, control hunger, and decrease calories.Decreasing calories is the key to all weight loss diets.Given the current obesity crisis in the U.S. and worldwide, with no end in sight, there is a pressing need for innovative approaches to weight loss. There is an urgent need to help people lose weight by restricting calories and increasing physical activity (which results in negative calorie balance and weight loss). The Ram Nut Diet takes a new approach by recommending nuts, a nutrient dense food that contain heart healthy fats, to help control energy intake by controlling dietary carbohydrates.

Dr. Ram recommends a sensible approach for incorporating a wide variety of nuts in the diet - portion control is foremost in the recommendations put forth in the book.Unlike numerous diet books on the market, Dr. Ram recommends a program of physical activity in conjunction with his weight loss diet. There are many scientific studies that have shown the importance of physical activity in maintaining sustained weight loss.Other strengths of the diet program include: a balanced diet that is rich in fruits and vegetables, and healthy carbohydrates; a support system (e.g. coach); and daily self-monitoring of food intake, exercise, and attitudes and life's events that affect adherence to the diet program. The 14 day meal plan and menu and recipes are an added bonus of the book.Collectively, the Ram Nut Diet recommends a healthy weight loss diet, physical activity, and behavior modification, all of which are current recommendations of many different professional organizations for healthy weight loss.

A distinguishing feature of this diet program is the focus on nuts as part of a weight loss program.Nuts are a powerhouse of nutrition including unsaturated fats (both monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats), plant protein, fiber, vitamin E, folic acid, vitamin B-6, niacin, magnesium, copper, zinc, and potassium, all of which are important for health.Often times, weight loss diets lack essential nutrients because calories are reduced.Including a handful of nuts (about 1 oz.) helps meet nutrient needs in a calorie-restricted diet.Nuts also include a variety of bioactive compounds including ellagic acid, flavonoids, phenolic compounds, and isoflavones that have been shown to have beneficial health effects.

Readers who follow the Ram Nut Diet will benefit from the many health attributes of nuts. Also, by following the Ram Nut Diet, readers will be able to lose weight, and maintain lost weight with a sensible nutrition program.

Review of The Fat to Muscle Diet (Paperback)

I first saw this diet in " Ladies Home Journal" back in 1989ish.
It had a page size color chart to figure your fat index, which the paperback book lacks.
I used this diet back in 1992 and lost 48 pounds. However, during the holidays over the years, the weight crept back.
Now my wife and I are both on this diet and in the first two weeks, I have lost:
14 pounds
2 inches in the hips
3 inches in the waist
1 1/2 inches across the breast
My wife keeps her weight secret, even after 14 years of marriage, but she has lost 4 inches in the waist, 3 inches in the hips, and 2 inches across the breasts, in our first two weeks. HINT: Buy a scale with a memory!
I would say the diet still works. In addition, I don't feel any hunger pangs between meals.
The exercise is important, but drinking 64 oz of water each day is more important, to wash out those fatty acids that accumulate from burning your stored up fat. DON'T WAIT until you are thirsty, start with water before the first cup of coffee.
There is no mention of increasing your water intake after drinking caffeinated drinks, that in hot weather would leave you dehydrated. The typical rule is to drink 2 times the amount of water for each amount of caffienated diet soda. Apparently, the fluid intake and outgo with 64 ounces of any liquid is enough to flush the system.
Our sample supper meal for one person:
Fruit: 4 oz high pulp Orange juice
1 Vege: 2 cups salad mix with 2 tablespoons red wine vinegar dressing
Protein; 1 Vege; 2 starch & 1/2 dairy:
2 yellow no fat tortillos
1/2 can no fat refried beans
1/2 can diced tomatoes with green chillies
grated cheese on top
Heated in microwave 2 1/2 minutes. Magnifique!
I whole heartedly recommend this diet. DON"T FORGET to exercise at least 30 minutes every other day. Walk, spade your garden, put up stuff upstairs or like I'm doing this morning...unloading 20 sacks of humas, 40 pounds each, which I found last night @ 49 cents each.

Review of The 3-Apple-a-Day Plan: Your Foundation for Permanent Fat Loss (Paperback)

The Apple Diet is essentially a low fat diet with a twist. Dieters on the plan eat three apples a day - one prior to each meal.

The premise behind the diet is a simple one. You eat an apple that fills you up with fiber, water and other nutrients and thus reduce your appetite. Apples pack a lot of benefits in a low calorie package.

This plan also includes a moderate calorie, low fat diet. Sample 1500 day includes apple, omelet, and oatmeal for breakfast, non fat cottage cheese and non fat yogurt for a snack. Chicken, broccoli, brown rice and apple for lunch, cappuccino shake for mid afternoon snack and dinner of salmon salad and you guessed it - an apple.

The plan also includes lots of exercise. Cardiovascular, and weight training with squats, lunges, chest presses etc.

The book makes it sound easy. Just eat your apples and voila..simple weight loss. In truth the plan would be very difficult for the average person looking to lose lbs. to stick with for the long haul and keep the weight off.

The diet reminds me of Bill Phillips initial Body for Life plan only not as good. Bill's initial diet included eating very clean ie chicken breast, brown rice, non starchy veggies etc. but it allowed for more fat. The Apple Diet plan is under 20% fat. Bill's plan has also expanded to include his new Eating For Life cookbook with tons of great tasting recipes. The recipes are far more interesting and easy to stick to than the ones in the Apple Diet.

Bill also allows for one cheat night. With the Apple Diet you get nothing..Nada..no chocolate, no ice cream, no dippin dots. Just grilled this or steamed that. How boring is that!
So yes this will work if you are hard core ready for intense clean eating. But if you want a little bit more laxity and interest try Bill's plan instead or if you are the average Mr. or Ms. trying to lose weight, up your protein some for satiation, count your calories but don't worry about being quite so perfect every day.

Another drawback to the plan is the apples. I like apples but THREE a day! Everyday!....hmmm could this diet be sponsored by companies like the Washington Apple Growers? Could this be a thinly disguised attempt to sell more apples.

Indeed we all agree that they have fiber and are good for us. BUT 3 per day?

Bottomline if you can eat very clean for the rest of your life and 3 apples every day..then this may be the perfect diet for you. If not...pick another plan.

Product Description
Learn the small-town diet secret that is sweeping the nation: add three apples a day to your diet and the weight will drop off!

In the little town of Wenatchee, Washington, Tammi Flynn, nutrition director at the local Gold's Gym, discovered a secret: when one of her clients, who had been stuck on a diet plateau, ate an apple before every meal and didn't change anything else, she lost one and a half pounds of fat in just one week. Flynn tried it out with her other clients and saw wild results. Three hundred forty-six people lost more than 6,000 pounds in twelve weeks. That's seventeen pounds per person!

Review of The Fat Flush Plan (Hardcover)

I bought this book, along with the cookbook, on Amazon a month ago and followed the diet plan closely for the first two weeks (I lost 13lbs.) and loosely for another 7-10 days for a total weight loss of 27lbs.It is not the easiest diet to follow, as the flax oil tastes really icky and the flaxseed fiber supplement drink is equally hard to swallow, but if you actually do what the author suggests, you Will lose weight. What I found the most difficult was eating eggs without salt and topping my protein portions with the flax oil as suggested.I think (I cannot prove it with personal research), that flax oil is much the same as linseed oil. It's not the initial taste, but the lingering aftertaste that put me off.I did learn how to cut back on carbs, fats and sodium (it's amazing what you can do with mustard and hot sauce) and did manage to modify my long term dietary intake, but after a month, I wanted to taste a grilled steak with garlic salt and maybe even a touch of butter, not to mention a crusty bit of bread! If you are more committed and have more willpower than I do, you can really lose a significant amount of weight on this plan and alter your palate.I have maintianed my weight loss (except for 4 lbs.), which is probably water weight due to increased sodium intake) and am very happy with the plan.I did lose a good amount of weight and learned alot on how to control portions and refined carbs without any real discomfort. The cookbook has lots of really good recipes, most of which could be elevated to stardom with some off-limits additions of butter! The mock mashed potatoes, using cauliflower was a real hit in my household and is still something I will fix regularly. This is an effective but not entirely painless diet plan suited for someone with real dedication.I thank the author sincerely for the many pounds I lost initially and for the good advice that I continue to follow. It's worth trying, especially if you have 20+ lbs. to lose!

Review of The Thin Commandments: The Ten No-Fail Strategies for Permanent Weight Loss (Hardcover)

Famed diet doctor,Stephen Gullo charges $1,000 an hour to advise clients on how they can lose weight. Now his tips and techniques can be yours for the price of this book.

The hardcover 318 page book is slim but it's definately quality content. The book is essentially two parts. The first section includes strategies to employ to keep yourself IN CONTROL and IN CHARGE when it comes to your food. Dr. Gullo describes 10 "Thin Commandments". These include tips such as; separate mood from food, structure gives control, slips should teach not defeat you etc.

The tips are pretty common knowledge but the twist is the techniques Gullo shares to master them. For example with his tip, "strategy is stronger than willpower", Gullo suggestsyou pop a sugar free cough drop or a breath strip to help you resist the bread basket in a restaurant. I tried this the other night when faced with a basket of crispy fried (read fattening) taco chips and voila..ate many less than I normally do.

Gullo also shares foods that he has found give enormous bang for your calorie buck. As another reviewer pointed out, these foods are hard to find. He recommends a 16 calorie crispbread that is an appetite suppresent due to the fiber and is a nice crunchy food item to eat instead of say chips. I hunted high and low in my area and came up emptyhanded. Ended up mail ordering the breads to the tune of $49.50 plus shipping. He pushes these crispbreads so hard in the book as such a wonder food I had to ask the company when I ordered if Dr. Gullo had ownership or derived any monetary gain from the sale. (He does not.) He also recommends a delicious waffle that was also hard to find. BUT its really not Gullo's fault that these foods are hard to find. They are unique in what they offer and they can be very beneficial. He has a resource section so you will be able to order them.

Mastering the strategies in the first section will help you get in control. In the second section Dr. Gullo shares his ABC turbocharged diet. This is definitely a low calorie diet with foods selected to help suppress appetite. He gives a choice of breakfasts, lunches, dinners and snacks. A typical day might be 2 hard boiled eggs with high fiber crackers for breakfast, a cajun fish fillet with spinach and veggies for lunch, a frozen stouffers entree for dinner with a side salad and several snacks such as a class of V-8, grapefruit or bowl of soup. The diet is definitely a diet. Personally I would rather eat more and lose weight slower and include treats like chocolate and wine. BUT Gullo's plan is only intended for 10 days to "turbocharge" you and appears healthy for those who are inclined to follow such a plan. It does not eliminate protein or fat or carbs like other plans.

Once you have finished the 10 days you go into a maintenance plan which includes more goodies. Dr. Gullo also gives a list of his top 110 best low calorie foods on the market. Some of these items are "faux" foods that are not the best choice in my opinion such as fat free mayo. I would rather have a little of the real stuff that doesnt have all the chemicals in it free mayo does or just substitute mustard. But many of the foods are good and nutritious. The crispbreads have no sugar and may take some getting used to but with a little spread on them..are a very tasty snack. Other winners include Babybel Cheese Wedges, Thomas English Muffins and Starkist crabmeat. The list is really great.

Gullo includes recipes in his book. angel cakes, raspberry souffle, organic turkey breast, cheese crepes etc. I made the eggplant parmegiana recently and it was excellent!

Overall the book is a great resource of tips and techniques to help you achieve your weight loss goals!
