Review of Eat Fat, Lose Weight (Paperback)

Ann Louise Gittleman is right on the money.I found this book the most important book about dietary fat I have ever read.
I, too, used to subscribe to the "fat-free" lifestyle in sad, desperate attemptsto lose weight.After finding out just how much the body needs fat,especially the right kinds of fat, I realized that I was really"abusing" my body by ignoring it's needs for essential fattyacids.I have added flaxseed oil to my daily regimen and have started toincorporate dietary changes.I do feel much better.
I also appreciatethe scientific evidence that supports her claims.She sheds new light onthe body's need for protein and fat, something that flies in the face oftraditional nutrition advice.Since I've started to give myself moreprotein, I feel fuller longer and my sugar cravings are much reduced.
Ifyou have been living the "Fat-Free Lie," you owe it to yourselfto read this book.I was so engrossed in the thing that I finished it in aday.It is truly breakthrough.

Review of Eat Right for Your Metabolism: The Individualized Diet Plan to Balance Body Chemistry, Lose Weight, and Prevent Disease (Paperback)

This book is packed with interesting information/ideas,some of which aren't frequently printed in other diet books--such as using potato water to curb appetite, coconut water to alkalinize the body, and eating right for your meat eater/vegetable eater metabolism, depending upon how acidic your stomach fluids are. But beware the Niacin Test to determine that acidity or lack of it! The author recommends 50 mg. Niacin to determine if one is a meat or vegetable eater. Some people get a flushing reaction, feel heat, get a rash, or get "vaginal discomfort" with that amount and are meat eaters, the author says. No reaction means one is chiefly a vegetarian/fish eater. What isn't stated in the book is that some people get a reaction to Niacin if it exceeds about 38 mg., a "safe" amount listed in some nutrition books. Also, the "vaginal discomfort" one gets can be a disruption of the normal internal envionment and result in yeast overgrowth, including Candidis yeast overgrowth! The author doesn't state this directly but happens to mention in her book that Candidis yeast overgrowth is sometimes very difficult, if not impossible, to get rid of and that antibiotics often have to be tried and that, even then, the overgrowth stays in one's system and doesn't go away. Unfortunately, because the author doesn't spell it out (possibly to keep book sales up there?), not every woman reading the book will understand that she is running the risk of having this happen to her and thus of running up all kinds of medical/pharmaceutical bills to solve a yeast/bacterial overgrowth problem. And sometimes rashes, too, have to be treated to make them go away. Another problem is that someone who has no reaction at 50mg. of Niacin might be tempted to try more and then develop all of the foregoing problems. The author says the "vaginal discomfort" problem occurs in "some women," and this wording seems to imply "not the majority"; however, bacteria/yeast are part of the female internal environment.Just how many women did the author study before seeming to imply, through wording, that this affects only some women? The test is the key to using the diets in the book and the recipes, so readers will be tempted to try it. My advice: Don't. Find out from your M.D. about the acidity of your stomach and go from there. Then you might be able to enjoy the truly splendid daily menu ideas for each type of diet and the recipes.

I'm not obese and not even really overweight, though I've gained plenty since college.I picked up this book because I've been frustrated by the fact that some women can take off 100, 60, or 30 pounds more successfully than I can take off ten or fifteen.(Also, I realized that unless something changed, I'd only keep on gaining and would someday need to lose fifty pounds, not just fifteen.) Review of Lose Weight, Have More Energy & Be Happier in 10 Days, Second Edition (Paperback)

Peter Glickman's "Have More Energy & Be Happier in 10 Days, Second Edition" is a definite aide in doing Mr. Stanley Burrough's "Master Cleanser" program.REMEMBER that this is not a DIET but a CLEANSE.This means you only do this periodically, like yearly, for 10 days or more in a single cleanse.

THESE ARE THE MAIN THINGS TO REMEMBER:

-This is not a DIET that one can adopt.This is a TEMPORARY CLEANSE.Just as undergoing surgery is not a new way of life but a short-term treatment where you actually leave the operating table.Think of cleansing for a colonoscopy - you don't continually cleanse for the rest of your life - so don't use the excuse that this is a dangerous diet.
-This is very DIFFICULT IF YOU DO NOT FOLLOW the instructions to the letter.
-The Salt Water Flush is horrible tasting but is ABSOLUTELY necessary in order to remove toxins quickly.Do it even if it is unpleasant for you.
-Buy organic.Use the products as directed.Why would you cleanse to remove toxins and simultaneously add toxins during the cleansing program!
-FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS.

I first tried the "Master Cleanser" diet in 2005 and then again in 2006. Both times, I only made it 3 days because I chose to do this diet on my vacation. That did not sit well with my family who wanted to go out and have nice dinners. So, I tried it this time while still working AND with the use of this book by Peter Glickman.

I highly recommend starting this on the night before starting a 3-day weekend or 3 full days off of work. This is only due to the requirement to be near a bathroom during the flushing phase after coming off of solid foods. I truly mean it when I say that you MUST be near (like 2 feet away) a bathroom the first 3 days.I started it at work and had to leave to go home since I was 50 feet away from the bathroom.

I am starting my fourth cleanse in August.During my cleanse in 2007, I made it the entire 10 days. I lost 16 pounds in these 10 days and could truly feel the detoxification. This book and Peter Glickman's book truly helped me with the symptoms that I would experience as the fast went on day to day. Peter includes a great section of questions and answers that address the majority of the issues that people have in conducting the Master Cleanser fast.

The goal is to detoxify the body to the point that one's tongue returns to a natural bright pink color, as most of us have polluted our bodies to the point that we have a whitish coating on our tongues. I did not make it until my tongue was bright pink, but I did gain the benefit of the 10 day fast. My skin became smooth and soft. My energy felt higher. My concentration was clearer in the second half of the fast.

By days 5, 6, 7, and 8, I must warn that you will definitely feel the effects of detoxification. I described it as having a "headache" over my entire body. As long as one has the Lemonade, one can satisfy any hunger. One will experience yearnings for food whenever one smells others eating.

I loan my multiple copies of the two publications "The Master Cleanser" by Stanley Burroughs and "Lose Weight, Have More Energy & Be Happier in 10 Days, Second Edition" by Peter Glickman to everyone I care about.These two books combined are truly the greatest self-healing guide that I have ever used. I highly recommend this if you are experiencing the effects of poor nutrition, such as obesity, HBP, type II diabetes, gout, etc.
