Review of The Good Carb Cookbook: Secrets of Eating Low on the Glycemic Index (Paperback)

One previous reviewer criticaly wrote that this is not a "low carb" cookbook. It should be noted that it does not pretend to be one. It is about lowering "bad" carbs while allowing "good" carbs. The books subtitle is "Secrets of Eating Low on the Glycemic Index", and it does an outstanding job of explaining the nutritional logic for doing so. I lost 43 pounds and achieved a BMI of 22.4 using this principle as espoused in "The South Beach Diet", but I was becomming bored with the limited recipes in that book. Then, "The Good Carb Cookbook" to the rescue. This book greatly enhanced my understanding of good carbs/bad carbs and provided recipes and wisdom for eating out that will allow me to keep the weight off while enjoying tasty and nutritious food. The recipes that I have tried so far are wonderfull tasting and easy to make. They utilize normal foods along with spices that the average person probably already has in the cupboard. There are many studies out now indicating that few people can stick with true low carb diets for the long term. This book reveals that one can enjoy health and weight benifits by eliminating "bad" carbs without trying to eleminate all carbs. I highly rcomend this book, this approach to weight and nutrition, and these recipes.

Review of Lauri's Low-Carb Cookbook: Rapid Weight Loss with Satisfying Meals! (2nd Edition) (Paperback)

Without going into too many details, let me just say that THIS COOKBOOK is the only reason my wife and I are still on the Atkins diet. We bought four cookbooks (all highly recommended), only to find that, while providingtasty recipes, three of the cookbooks asked for all manner of"fancy" ingredients. Stuff not normally found in our"average" kitchen. Expensive stuff. And many of the recipesweren't quite as low-carb as we had hoped (20g for one serving?).
Lauri'scookbook took care of those problems. I think the only "fancy"ingredients we had problems with were Kitchen Bouquet (it was in the gravysection at the store) and shallots (never had one before). The rest is justplain, everyday ingredients. And low-carb? All of her recipes list thenutritional information right there. It's nice to eat a large, tasty dinnerwith only 2.3g per serving! Most of the recipes are below 10g, and many arebelow 5g. Serving size is very generous.
I consider this book to be thebest diet/way-of-eating investment I've made so far. This cookbook is justtoo good to pass up.

Review of Secrets of Good Carb / Low Carb Living (Paperback)

I have most of Sandra Woodruff's books and I haven't found a bad recipe yet. This book is no exception. The California Club Wraps are to die for. They were so good that I made them several days in a row.I also tried the Chipotle Black Bean Chili, which was excellent. My husband is a picky eater and generally hates diet food, but he loves everything I've made from Sandra Woodruff cookbooks.I frequently serve her recipes to company and no one can guess they're low-fat and healthy. This particular book also has lots of common-sense advice on doing a low-carb diet and offers two versions, one for a quick start and another for a diet with more carbs. Both give two weeks of menus.

Review of American Heart Association Low-Salt Cookbook, Second Edition: A Complete Guide to Reducing Sodium and Fat in Your Diet (Paperback)

This is a low-fat cookbook with the words "low-fat" crossed out and "low-salt" written in in crayon.I need a low-sodium diet because of inner ear problems and I was very disappointed with this book. Consider, for example, these two recipes: "Chicken Enchiladas,"p.112 and "Spinach Lasagna," p 142.The former has 684 mg sodiumper 2-enchilada serving and the latter has 594 mg per serving.Sorry, folks, but this ain't "low-salt."The book does have manylow-salt recipes, but the real focus is low-fat.The authors useconsiderably more space discussing low-fat issues than low-sodium issuesand precious little of the latter.Since you're not going to eatenchiladas and lasagna every night (I hope not!), the average amount ofsodium intake over, say, a week would be lower using these recipes.Thisis fine if your focus is to take good care of your heart, but if you'relike me and you're sensitive to bursts of sodium into your system, thisbook doesn't cut it.

Review of Low-carb Ideas : Good Food2 (Paperback)

This book is so great. It offered many different ideas to begin my low carb diet. I'm not a creative person in the kitchen, so it's hard for me to come up with creative eating choices. This book gave me easy & quick ideas to ideas that had a little more to them, but still easy enough to make. Everything I've tried so far has been great. I LOVE the low-carb chocolate mousse with strawberries. It's enough to get you over your sweet craving.

Product Description
Please note that this book is entitled, "Low-carb Ideas - Good Food2." "Ideas" is the key here. There are some things I have written that give "ideas" and are not meant to be exact recipes. I have enjoyed hearing about what several readers have come up with as a result too. There are also some recipes that give you credit for having decision making skills enough to determine if you want to put more salt than pepper or how many pepperonis you might want on your crustless pizza, etc.
The "ideas" in my books are very simple to follow and will surprise you with the great end-result. I've even had a few single guys write and say how they impressed their dates they had over for dinner. Some of those have been fun to read! One lady said she had lost 50 pounds by getting help from using "2." Another has written to say she has never found a cookbook she wanted to try more than just a couple of the recipes or laughed that much while reading it. Another reader said my recipes are just how they cook around their home and asked for another copy for a friend. That happens a lot. This book also contains numerous recipes that give exact measurements. I also give out my e-mail address so you can ask me any questions about any of the recipes. (ideasbyme@aol.com)I have gotten so many wonderful comments and requests for more that I have written "Low-carb Ideas - Good Food3" that should be out very shortly. It will have over 250 more ideas.I also have a REGISTERED DIETITIAN do all of the carb counts for the entire recipe. You can divide what portion you wish to eat to determine your carb intake. My book varies on ideas too to let you determine what carb-intake you can have on a particluar day. Some things like the use of "Cool Whip" may seem odd at first until you divide the portion and realize you had a fabulous treat for around 5 carb grams! I want to thank all of you who have written me and thanked me for authoring this book. Your comments make it all worthwhile. I know those with kind comments ususally don't take the time to post reviews, etc. but even so, your e-mailing me directly has kept me going. With "3" out shortly, I have now started work on "4" with over 100 new recipes already that are piling up to be published. I also appreciate those of you who have sent me a few ideas or inspirations for recipes. Thanks for everything and keep in touch! God Bless!Donna

Review of Low-Carb Ideas: Good Food 3 (Paperback)

I enjoyed"Low-carb Ideas - Good Food2" so much I had to buy "3." I'm so glad I did! I have enjoyed the cheesecake and all the fast and easysoups the most. The soups gave me quick lunches that took about five minutes or even less for some from start to finish. Very low-carb and in some cases less then 1 gram for the whole thing. This has helped me stay on my diet because I can have time to figured out an evening meal, but lunch gets old if I only eat meat and cheese. Then did I mention cheesecake? Enough said.

Product Description
"Low-carb Ideas - Good Food3," like "2," has simple recipesand ideas for those who want to monitor their carbohydrate intake. Allthe recipes in the books have had the carb count calculated by aregistered dietitian."3" has 250 recipes that are different fromthose found in "2." The recipes are very easy to prepare and deliciousto eat!
The book has the "ideas" stated in very simple terms with a relaxed style and a bit of "humor." Many readers have written that they not only enjoyed the recipes but the read as well.
"Low-carb Ideas - Good Food3" has a few reader "ideas" given and encourages reader input or questions directed by e-mail, to ideasbyme@aol.com.

Review of 5 Square Low-Carb Meals: The 20-Day Makeover Plan with Delicious Recipes for Fast, Healthy Weight Loss and High Energy (Hardcover)

The recipes are so simple - I double them to save myself time with cooking.Lynn suggests saving the leftovers for the next days meals and portioning them out - brilliant. It is never easy to change ones eating habits and I must say - I rebelled at first...thankfully my husband is one of those people that get really focused and he motivated me to stay on track.I had sugar withdrawals the first 2 days as Lynn said I would...thankfully by day three I felt leaner and had more energy than I have had in years. This book is a no-brainer.

Review of Cooking for Harry: A Low-Carbohydrate Novel (Hardcover)

I picked up this book after finishing a thriller, merely looking to read something easy and soothing after a never-ending story. Next time I will be more careful.
The repeated mentions of various food and drinks made me hungry. That was fine as they also presented ideas for scrumptious dinners. The whole story, though, was banal.
I missed it completely that it was titled a "low-carbohydrate" novel. Popular diets especially that stress on low-carb meaning plenty of protein are not my preference. In fact, not one diet regime can be categorized as my favorite.
Consuming food moderately is the best policy but apparently Harry, the troubled main character had a problem doing just that. A lot of people might share his dilemma. A few families might be experiencing the same quandary dealing with obesity. Some individuals might empathize with the family's difficulty. Many spouses might identify with the marriage mess.
Not me; not yet maybe.

Review of Atkins for Life: The Complete Controlled Carb Program for Permanent Weight Loss (Mass Market Paperback)

As many people know, losing weight is often times easier than keeping it off. Atkins addresses this issue in his latest book, "Atkins For Life".
The book "Atkins for Life" is an excellent resource book. It is filled with practical advice and tips on how to make your low carbohydrate weight loss a permanent success.
Over the years Atkins name has been maligned and sneered at as he pioneered the idea that its not the fat in our diet that makes us fat its the excessive amounts of carbohydrates we have been consuming. The low fat diet was presented to Americans as the best way and the healthiest way to lose weight. However, recent researchhas revealed the low fat diet to be a miserable failure. As the fat has been taken out of the diet carbohydrates have been added in their place and many Americans have become obese and unhealthy. Dr. Atkin's proposal that eating less carbs can lead to weight loss and better health has been vindicated.
The Atkins weight loss method is a 4 step approach. Phase 1 INDUCTION is where you limit your carbs to 20 grams per day to jump start your weight loss program. Phase 2 OWL or ONGOING WEIGHT LOSS allows you to slowly add back carbs until you discover the amount of carbs you can eat and still lose weight.
Phase 3 PRE-MAINTENANCE has you slow your weight loss by adding in more carbs so good eating habits become ingrained. And in Phase 4 LIFETIME MAINTENANCE you learn to enjoy a wider variety of foods and maintain your weight loss. This book "Atkins for Life" discusses each of the phases but is mainly concerned with Phase 4 LIFETIME MAINTENANCE.
You can learn what to do to lose weight with this book, but for in depth information, you would be better off selecting "Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution".
This book covers in great detail how to maintain the weight you have lost. Part One: A Lifetime Plan recaps the Atkins program. It includes information on the diet, the effect on your body, putting it into practice and how to benefit from exercise. Part Two: Eating for Life teaches you how to get your kitchen in order, and gives thirty meal plans with carb counts. It includes twenty meal plans for special occasions. 125 recipes for success are also given.
YES you can eat carbohydrates. You can have bread, cake and pizza or even wine. The key of course is knowing how many carbohydrates your body can handle each day without gaining weight. And using techniques to get the most bang from your carbohydrate buck. These techniques are taught in the book. For example if you crave bread Atkins has several pages of information to help you make the best selection. Breads are ranked on their ability to effect your insulin levels. There are also tips on how to enjoy bread without overdoing it such as eating the crust only. Atkins shares techniques like this for a variety of foods.
Comfort foods are a big issue for many. Atkins tells you what to choose or what to substitute. Eating out is another area covered. Best choices at different restaurants is given in detail. Atkins also includes mental tips to help you avoid backsliding.
Key to the book is the detailed menu plans given for 4 ranges of carb levels at 45g, 60g, 80g and 100g . Just adjust up or down so you are at your level (which you learn from his diet).Meal plans are simple and include snacks.A sample day for a 60 g plan would include 1 slice lemon zucchini bread, with an egg and ricotta cheese for breakfast. Meat loaf with whole-grain bread and salad for lunch.
Jerk shrimp with pasta or collard greens for dinner and 1/2 cup of cantaloupe for a snack. Carb counts are given so you can substitute as desired.
Crab Deviled Eggs, Cherry Muffins, Mixed Berry Shortcakes, Pinwheel Cookies, Roasted Chicken and Feta Cheese Wrap, Chocolate Souffle and Southwestern Style Pork Fajitas are among the 125 recipes. Recipes include nutritional information, but are not pictured.
The 370 page book also includes self tests and quizzes to help you stay on task. My favorite part of "Atkins For Life" has to be the success stories. There are a number of remarkable stories in the book with black and white photos included! Very inspiring!
The book "Atkins For Life" makes living a low carb life in our high carb worldeasier and enjoyable! I highly recommend it!

Review of GO-Diet, The Goldberg-O'Mara Diet Plan (Paperback)

I have every book on low-carb diets that has been printed, but this onemakes the most sense. After another low-carb attempt my cholestrol, etc.tests showed increases. Scary, very scary to me. This diet raises themonounsatured fat, lowers carbohydrates, increases fiber and isnutritionally balanced with normal protein levels.(Just as the coverstates.)The weight is coming off, as with other low-carb attempts, butthe blood test numbers are better and that is what we all aim for, right? The most encouraging part for me is that the Go-Diet is wellbalanced....you can live with it for a lifetime, even with an occasional"slip".I should have read this book first.I would have saveda lot of money and wasted time. Written by intelligent and compassionateprofessionals.

Review of The Low-Carb Baking and Dessert Cookbook (Paperback)

I love the recipes I have tried. My favorites are Pecan Toffee Crunch, which are just like candied pecans but low in carbs. So often foods that are low in carbs often are even lower in flavor. Another delicious recipe is the Nutty Hi-Pro Mini Bars. These are moist and so creamy......they are worth the price of the cookbook. Try the crepes...you will not be disappointed. Another delicious recipe is the Meringue Shells....made withoutsugar and yet are fantastic. Another recipe I love is the Shortbread Cookies. They are soft and yummy. The Sandy Pecan Balls are comparable to Russian Teacakes and are as delicious.
Some great bread recipes are the Date bread, olive and Brown bread. These are all wonderful. Just because it's low-carb does not mean you are sentenced to a life of no flavor .The author has spent considerable time in explaining different sweeteners and where to get them. This book will revitalize your commitment to eating low-carb, because the flavor has not been sacrificed.

    Review of Cajun Low-carb (Hardcover)

As a lover of Cajun cuisine, Jude Theriot created a low-carb cookbook to show low-carb dieters that you can even enjoy Cajun cuisine!

Jude Thierot is a chef. He used to be the executive chair of the International Association of Culinary Professionals Foundation from 1997 to 1998. He has written five additional books on Cajun cuisine: Cajun Healthy, Cajun Quick, La Cuisine Cajun, La Meilleure de la Louisiane: The Best of Louisiana (sp), and New American Light Cuisine.

Through his love of Cajun cuisine, and adapting some American favorites, Theroit wanted low-carb dieters to learn and enjoy the food he loves best, Cajun! Each recipe in this book lists serving size, total carbohydrates per serving, net carbohydrates per serving, and calorie count. While creating this cookbook, Theroit lost more than 100 pounds.

The recipes are easy-to-read and utilize simple ingredients including Cool Whip, Tabasco Sauce, Equal and Splenda. I could not find any unusual ingredients, except soy flour, which is available in most grocery stores. You may just need to look in the natural food section. There are no photographs or illustrations.

Some nice recipes that we enjoyed were: Just Tomato Salad, Grilled Flank Steak and the Chocolate Mousse.

This book was nice, but a few photographs would have helped sell some of the recipes in this book. Also, knowing yet another person has jumped on the "low-carb" bandwagon was a bit frustrating, despite understanding that Theroit just wants to share his love for Cajun food.

    Product Description
Now lovers of Cajun cooking can have their gumbo and eat it too! The recipes in this cookbook cover a tremendous range from standard American favorites like pizza, (mock) mashed potatoes, and meatloaf, to classic Cajun dishes including étouffée, shrimp au gratin, and even jambalaya. The seafood recipes cover just about everything that swims, and the sauces and seasoning mixes can elevate just about any dish into a special treat. There are even dessert recipes sure to satisfy the sweet tooth without the sugar. One unique feature of each of Chef Theriot's cookbooks is the lagniappe, or "a little something extra." This book includes suggestions for parties, additional uses for recipes, serving suggestions, and more. This book proves that Cajun cooking can be low-carb cooking.
Chef Theriot lost more than one hundred pounds eating the recipes he developed for this cookbook. Millions of Americans have discovered exactly what Chef Jude W. Theriot found when he tried a diet low in net carbohydrates: that cutting carbs is an effective way to maintain long-term weight loss because the food available on this regimen can be deeply satisfying.
Each recipe lists serving size, total carbohydrates per serving (which includes sugar alcohols), net carbohydrates per serving, and calorie count.

Review of The Low Blood Sugar Handbook: You Don't Have to Suffer (Paperback)

It's been 1 1/2 years since I wrote my first review of this book (different email address) and I'm still following this way of eating. It'sbecome a way of life, and I still feel it's the best thing that everhappened to me. I remain free of the symptoms I was experiencing (excessivetiredness, nightmares, non-restorative sleep, excessive yawning, fibromyalgia, knee joint pain, irritability, inability to concentrate, moodswings, cravings for starchy foods, strong hunger pangs, shakiness, etc.).I have not even had a cold in the past 1 1/2 years (I used to get about 3to 4 a year, typically accompanied by bronchitis). I continue to have lotsof energy, and just feel great. My body has returned to a well-functioningstate the way I had always suspected it should be. I can't imagine anymoreto drink sodas, eat foods that contain nothing but starch, sugar, etc., andsuffer the consequences of hypoglycemia. And, what I eat now tastes so muchbetter, anyway. Yes it took some getting used to, but that's the same withany change. Buy this book, try it out, stick with it - you won't regret it.

    Product Description
FOR THOSE WHO SEARCHThe program outlined in The Low Blood Sugar Handbook is for you. It is anoptimum lifestyle not only for functional hypoglycemics (low blood sugarsufferers), but also for those suffering from premenstrual syndrome (PMS)and everyone else who desires a healthy and productive life.
Women who suffer from PMS often have low blood sugar. Once the bloodsugar is stabilized, the PMS can be dealt with more effectively.
This book is written by low blood sugar sufferers rather than by a medicalperson since only sufferers have the insight into dealing with theeveryday situations of low blood sugar. After working with hundreds ofhypoglycemics, Edward and Patricia Krimmel have articulated the thingsthat only sufferers can know. They give the clear, practical and completeadvice you need for understanding and dealing with the everyday nitty-gritty of low blood sugar.
The chapters of the book deal with such practical matters as being able toidentify if you have low blood sugar, what it is, how serious it is and whatto do if you have the condition. The four dimensions of the KRIMMEL PROGRAM are:1. Food ethic 2. Exercise3. Fun & laughter4. Sleep, rest & relaxation
A fifth dimension is found in chapters 5, 6, 8, and 9. The information isunique to this handbook. Only through the application of the fifthdimension, can the low blood sugar sufferer get total value from the other4 dimensions.
Low blood sugar is a personal affair. Only through personal initiative canit be controlled. There is no medication or "cure all" for it. Only throughthe proper program and understanding your body chemistry can thiscondition be controlled.
If you're willing to spend enough timeAnd put out enough effortYou can solve every problem

It also addresses severalbehavioral issues as possibly being food related and offers suggestions forcorrecting these behaviors through food. I have been introducing new foodsto even my 3 year old daughter like they recommend, and she has respondedpositively. It really does work. I would highly recommend this book toANYONE with kids, and a great read for adults too.

Review of Carbohydrates Can Kill (Paperback)

One of the things that is most frustrating for people dealing with weight and health issues is that they don't feel like their primary care physician truly understands their problem. If only doctors and other medical professionals could go through all the experiences of trying to lose weight, deal with declining health, and attempt to eat as healthy as they want us to, then maybe people would feel more confident and inspired to do those things for themselves. That's exactly what Dr. Robert K. Su has done.

After years of toiling with high-carb, low-fat diets and struggling to figure out why his patients weren't losing weight and getting healthier eating that way, Dr. Su went on his own personal low-carb journey that led him to shed the pounds, greatly improve his health, and have an epiphany about why so many of his patients had such a difficult time with these issues over the years. His research showed him it was the carbohydrates they were eating that were quite literally KILLING them.

While most people erroneously think that your body somehow needs carbs to function, Dr. Su outlines brilliantly in his book that this is a bald face lie.The body actually needs fat and some protein, but there is absolutely no dietary requirement for the body to consume carbs.CARBOHYDRATES CAN KILL is an eye-opening book for anyone who is still caught up in decades-old thinking that fat is the enemy and carbs are your friend.Flip those two around and you'll see what Dr. Su sees--low-carb will work for you, too!

    Product Description
Go ahead, have another slice -- it s not going to kill you ... or is it? That's what we ve been taught to believe. Luckily for us, Dr. Robert Su has taken it upon himself to discover the real truth behind one of the most widely-ingested and dangerously insidious substances around: carbohydrates.
Dr. Su is an experienced physician - certainly not a wide-eyed advocate of every new dietary fad that comes around - as well as living proof that carbohydrates are one of the most underrated and misunderstood threats to consumers today. With Carbohydrates Can Kill, you can learn how to:
-Find your own carbohydrate-restricted diet (one that you can stick to)
-Recognize your body's reactions to your lifestyle, and alter that lifestyle as necessary
    -Purposefully strengthen your immune system
-Improve your well-being and extend your lifespan
-Treat your body as one unit, understanding that each part affects all other parts
-Find support from your family and friends
In language both passionate and accessible, Dr. Su uses his own life as an example of what not to do - as well as showing us how to recover from a life doing just that. He has a clear desire to see a healthier and happier tomorrow for all of us, and has spent years devoted to his quest to find the truth about carbohydrates so that the rest of us don't have to. Armed with this book and the vast number of outside references he has collected for all of us, we are supplied with all the tools we need to successfully find and stick to a carbohydrate-restricted diet.
It's never too late to become healthy!

Review of Dr. Robert Atkins: The True Story of the Man Behind the War on Carbohydrates (Hardcover)

I agree with Publisher's Weekly. This bio/business book by Lisa Rogak on Atkins the diet doc, is not sure what it wants to be when it grows up (a measly 224 pages of text in big print.)Part trashy/dishy tabloid reporterage, part chronicle of the diet trends surrounding the Good Doctor, it also contains agGrandizement for the Grand Old Party (Republicans - p.95 - proselytizing a view not universally shared.)

Rogak's credibility is questionable. "Facts"" weren't checked. For instance:"And QVC, the cable shopping network, offers a `Low-Carb Hour` several times each week." Lisa, Lisa. Maybe you should have at least consulted a Program Guide?Sometimes, she `ain't got no' sense of syntax, as in:"Normally, the law prohibits medical examiners from releasing these records to no one..."

And worst of all: THERE ARE NO PICTURES!
Better: The recent Atkins Biography on A&E TV.

    Product Description
Only now, after his death, is Dr. Robert Atkins being recognized for his groundbreaking work in the field of diet and nutrition. While counting carbohydrates has become an everyday practice for the adherents to a low-carb, high-fat, high-protein plan, Atkins faced a lifetime of adversity from a medical establishment that scoffed at his radical ideas, even though they proved effective. But many questions still remain about the man and his methods: Was he really overweight when he died? Did he really believe everything he wrote, or was he driven by money and fame? And what happened to the Atkins empire after his death? These questions and more are answered in this revealing, fascinating glimpse into the public and private life of a unique and brilliant doctor and promoter who revolutionized the way we think about food.

Review of The CR Way: Using the Secrets of Calorie Restriction for a Longer, Healthier Life (Paperback)

Back when I was 200 pounds, 6 months after having my third child--I was shopping around for a diet book when I ran across 'Beyond The 120 Year Diet' the only known thing to extend human life.I read it, and re-read it, followed it to a tee and lost 85 pounds over the next 6 months.I felt so good about my life, so healthy and full of energy, I wanted to share what I'd learned--I gave 10 copies out to my closest friends and family that Christmas.Sadly, I heard from many (those that told me) that it was 'too scientific', or 'too hard'.I had liked it, but understood it could be difficult to read. Some of those I loved, still were overweight like I had been and I didn't think they 'got the message' like I had--they'd not been inspired...Now, 6 years later, a few more CR books have come and gone, this is the newest on the scene. It has all the same basic information in an easy to read format, but it has the updated science and even addresses some new research such as intermittent fasting--but it is all presented in a simple to 'digest' manner :-).The authors do not present one narrow path of how to do calorie restriction, instead they give many routes to the same longevity benefits. The book is a smorgasbord for people who are at different commitment levels to CR, you can do it as in depth or as lightly as you want. The authors give you the information to do CR on a busy lifestyle. This year I have a new book to share, to inspire my friends and family. This is the first book since 'Beyond The 120 Year Diet' that I can confidently give as a present, and know it will educate in a gentle manner, and at the very least impart a heightened sense of awareness about the food my friends and family eat, so small steps can be taken for better health.I recommend this book to those interested in a diet that works, and becomes second nature for a healthier, longer life.

Review of The Low Carb Fast Food Diet (Paperback)

I bought a copy of this book for myself and liked it so much I am ordering a second copy as a gift for my best friend. It is full of good information no matter what kind of a diet you might be following.I am always starting a low carb diet and then finding myself tempted to cheat, mainly because I am too tired to cook after a long day at work. Ms. Gray points out how I can eat a hamburger, throw away all or part of the bun and not mess up my low carb eating. One chapter called "The Good, The Bad and the Holy Cow!" has lots of good tips about healthy fast food eating.

My favorite part though, is the Carb Chart in the back of the book.I am keeping this in my car so I have a good reference to use when I get fast food. The chart is thorough and includes lots of restaurants. It is nice to have a book that doesn't bog you down with too much technical stuff about losing weight but still gives me the information I want to know.

    Product Description
An easy must-have plan for any serious low carb dieter. Includes a full week's worth of easy to follow low carb fast food meals and examples from over a dozen restaurants of diet-friendly choices. A comprehensive chart of nutritional values for carbs, calories, fat and more for hundreds of fast food menu items can also be found.

Review of The Low Carb CookwoRx Cookbook (Hardcover)

I first started the Atkins diet in 2004, when low carb was getting big.Suffice it to say, I did well on it but 2005 didn't work out too well, as it hasn't for others either, since the low carb "craze" seems to be gone. However, I wanted to get back on track. The problem is, Atkins doesn't excite me anymore and has a lot of don't do this, and do this but with products and specialty products that either are too expensive or don't exist anymore!

Then I saw the Drs. Eades' show on PBS, called "Low Carb CookwoRx" (which televises all these recipies) and I'm already mentally feeling like a new person.I just got this book for Christmas and checked out their diet books from my local library and am ready to start learning about their plans.Just from the show I'm amazed - not only are these recepies DOABLE by anyone, but they explain during the show WHY they are important. So not only am I getting low carb, but I know it's HEALTHY too.

Really, though, the main reason I was so excited for this book is that the recipies are not only foods that we all love, but involve using normal ingredients.Sure, there are a few that are specialty items, but for the most part, the only thing you'll have to buy that you're not used to is new, exciting, and healthier foods (e.g. celery root or butternut squash).Whether it's pasta, tacos, pancakes and syrup, or even pumpkin pie, they have real recipies that involve using foods and techniques that I KNOW and that are within my budget (and not just random, expensive, and specialty low carb products).

If you haven't seen their show and are unsure of this book, check your local PBS listings - the show is great, they're such a nice couple, and they make me EXCITED to cook (even more so this book)!I hope you all purchase this book not only because it's a great resource, but to show the Drs. Eades their plan is reasonable, doable, and beneficial to the REAL person.
